Words and footsteps swirled around Katrina in a whirlwind of white noise. Footstep, footstep, Gracie's laugh, three more footsteps, Carrie and Marina's loud footsteps, Zoe hitting a tree with her sword, footstep, footstep, a rabbit or a chipmunk or something rustling in the ground, squeaking and running off. Eight more footsteps against rustling leaves that where falling from the trees, laughter, silence, footstep, laughter. Katrina blinked with her white, sightless eyes and sighed, holding the hilt of her sheathed sword, smiling at the laughter. Her feet slid out in front of her as her shoulders hit several trees, but she never smacked into anything or anything like that. She wished she had a CD player to tune out some of the loud music. That would be a reason that one of those iPod thingies would be good. They had some rubber things to stuck in your ear to hear through, right? That would be one advantage. But still, technology and here didn't go together.
"–Attacked–" "–Ice cream–" "–bite me–"
Sweeping her hair to one side, the Italian stuck one of her hands out in front of her to try and feel ahead of her so she didn't smack into a tree. Three footsteps coming up behind her, four to her side and someone took off running in front of her. Someone from behind her – probably Jenny, judging by the smell of her hair – put a hand on her shoulder and Katrina kept her hands out in front of her.
"Allegria, you don't have to do that. I'm your eyes, remember?" Jenny said. Katrina laughed, "I do, but still! My eyes might be dumber then they seem," she said jokingly. Jenny laughed from behind her. Footstep footstep footstep, deer somewhere beside them running, then the sound of four paws pounding against the ground before Pelliccia jumped onto Katrina, licking her face. "Down! I'm trying to walk!" She exclaimed. "Jeez, your dog is waaaay too hyper." Jenny said, then rolled her eyes. "I'm rolling my eyes, Ria," She announced. Katrina nodded. "I have known you waaay to well to think that you might not have been." This caused an outbreak of laughter as Katrina listened to footstep after footstep after footstep, laughter, deer and small creatures, along with Pilliccia panting and running around. Allegria put one hand on her ear to try and tune some of it out, but it didn't work. Soon enough though, she heard everyone stop walking, so she also stopped.
"Here we are! Camp Half-Blood. You will be staying here for a number of days while I take care of business. You can stay in the cabin the built after me, and you will eat with the other campers in the mess hall. Chiron will inform you of the rules shortly. For now, you may go wander about." Artemis said. Jenny started whispering rabid descriptions of what she saw at Katrina, and she focused on trying to picture it in her mind while the other Huntresses said goodbye to Artemis or whatever. "–Cabins in the shape of a U. One has flowers on it – Demeter – and one with an owl – Athena – and one with a bronze sign – Hephaestus – and one regal looking one with white columns and a lightning bolt – Zeus – and one with grape vines growing up it – Dionysus – and huge building with blue paint and porch at the edge of the U. There's also a strawberry field and an amphitheater and a huge climbing wall." Jenny explained quickly; Katrina drinking it all in. Oh how she wished she could see... it sounded magnificent...
Pilliccia sat on the ground and howled at the sky. "Shhhh!" She told the silver wolf. A smell from the strawberry fields wafted in through the wind that made Katrina's mouth water. She knew Jenny well enough to know that she was probably wanting to go explore, so Katrina turned to her, actually looking a few inches from her head and at the amphitheater. "Don't worry about me; you can go explore or whatever you want you." Jenny hesitated. "You sure?" Katrina just smiled. "Of course." She said, breathing in the smell of the strawberries again. Jenny clapped her on the back then ran off, along with the other Huntresses as they dispersed among the camp, leaving one Italian blind girl to wander around on her own.
She walked off, her blind eyes open and her hands in front of her. She heard laughter she had never heard before and un-recognizable footsteps, along with some crying coming from a cabin. She had no idea where she was going, so she simply walked in a straight line, not sure where to go. She shoved down the thoughts of her wishing she could see and focused on the smell of strawberries. She could go pick some from the field, right? They smelled heavenly... maybe when she got there she could read the braille copy of To Kill A Mocking Bird that she kept in her bag at all times. But then what? She would have to ask someone to show her her cabin sometime... and she needed to eat... and feed Pilliccia. But she would cross that bridge when she came to it, because at that moment, she settled after going towards the smell of the strawberries, Pilliccia bounding along beside her, panting.
