A crimson sunset was plastered out onto the sky, but the sun's end for the night wouldn't stop Avery Jordana Sparse from getting trained well. Tonight she seemed particularly interested in throwing daggers, because it was a skill she was yet to improve. Sure, she was skilled at it, but she wanted to master the profession of throwing knives and daggers.
Light rays of exuberant orange and light pink shot into the arena, giving Avery a sudden energy. With an encouraging, fast "Ya!" from her mouth, Avery let the dagger go spinning from her fingertips. SLICE! it shot the dummy right throw the heart. Suddenly motivated, Avery retrieved the dagger, and threw it again. This time it hit right where she was aiming, the wall. It sliced through the wall of the arena and stuck into the wooden walls surrounding it. Enjoying her accomplishments, Avery retrieved it once more.
A surge of pride washed over her, as she realized that her aim had improved as well, awhile her skills in dagger-chucking. She grinned at her sudden improvement, and picked up her sword. Four feet of killer celestial bronze, very sharp tip. Avery's sword, Harmless. She called it Harmless to make it sound weaker than it was. But really, it was a killing machine. Avery held it by a leather hilt that had been re-wrapped in leather multiple times to stop it from completely wearing out. She started chopping up the dummies.
Avery felt extremely enthusiastic about her sword and swordswomanship. She ducked through the two wood legs of the dummy, her height coming to an advantage, and jabbed it in the back. She pretended, in her imagination, that the dummy had evaporated, and went around to slice up some other practice dummies in the arena.
Avery looked at her wristwatch. 11:30 PM. She had practiced almost all night! She was about to go back to her cabin when she heard footsteps. Someone was lurking in her midst.
