A Mistake Made Once (Camille/Later Olivia)

Chase walked out of his cabin headed towards the forest. He just wanted some peace and quiet and to be away from his cabin. All the kids in there were asking about Olivia, what it was like dating her, this and that. He had been talking about her since a couple nights ago. When they had their date on the beach. He smiled remembering it. Of course he loved talking about it but they were asking for the DETAILS of it. Those he didn’t want to share, so he thought heading into the forest would be a good idea. Once he hit the forest line, everything seemed to go quiet.

His footsteps were the only thing he could hear and he was glad for it. He looked around not remembering the last time he had been in here. After a couple of minutes of walking, he came into a little clearing. It looked like a place where kids would keep the flag when they played Capture The Flag. That’s right, that had been the last time he was in here. He walked over to a nearby rock, glad there was one here, and collapsed on top of it. He sighed and closed his eyes basking in the peace and quiet of the forest. His mind kept wandering to Olivia and a smile stayed on his face.

His thought of her were making him slowly fade into a light sleep. He was just to the point of falling into a deeper sleep when he heard a branch crack from a footstep. He leaned up resting his hands on his knees as he did so. His eyebrows furrowed distinctly remembering telling the kids to leave him alone for a bit. But he held back his tongue unsure of who was really coming into the forest and why they were coming into his little quiet zone.

Camille carefully walked under the branches. The pink light from the setting sun bounced off of her golden hair, and it was hard to tell her apart from the bright golden orb when she stood in front of it. As she walked, the back of her sandal got caught on a tree branch and she fell on a pile of sticks, creating a long scratch down her calf.

She pushed herself against the tree, and glanced down at the scratch on her leg. Muttering a silent curse to herself, she pushed her blonde hair behind her ear and attempted to examine the scratch. When she looked up, there was someone there.

The dark-haired boy didn't look like he had noticed her yet, which was surprising. He had yet to notice her, and she wasn't sure she liked that. As she tried to stand, she fell back down on her bottom. "Ouch..." she muttered, believably, yet a bit too loudly to be accidental. Of course, she doubted he would know the difference.

Chase's eyes zeroed in on a girl when he heard the "Ouch.” His eyebrows shot up and he realized that she had fallen down. Instinct made him call out to her as he got up. "You okay?' He said, his thoughts of Olivia being interrupted. He walked over to where she was sitting down and looked at the cut on her leg. If she took some ambrosia, it would heal right away.

Luckily, he did have some on him. he dug in his short pockets pulling out a square. It was his last one but he could always get more from the Apollo cabin later. Right now she needed it more than he did. He handed it to her giving her an easy smile as he squatted down next to her instead of staying standing up over her.

While she ate the square he tried to think of where he had seen her before. She looked vaguely familiar. She had a sort of beauty that only the Aphrodite cabin had. Of course, to him it didn't equal up to Olivia, but they were beautiful and handsome thanks to their mom. He grinned holding out his hand for her to shake once she was done with the ambrosia. "I'm trying to remember your name, but I can't exactly place it. I'm Chase Taylor. Son of Athena"

He stood up then, and held out his hand so that he could pull her up off the ground. He wasn't sure about her, but even he didn't like sitting on the ground out here. That's why he had chosen the rock to lay down on. He waited for her to take his hand before pulling her up so that she was standing beside him. He then let go of her hand.

It wasn't until she was standing that he took in what she was wearing. He cocked his eyebrow up and smirked slightly. "Are you planning on going to the beach? Because that isn't a good outfit for out here in the forest." A bikini really was not, neither wore the shoes she wore. Sure they were better than the bikini, but it was better to wear shoes.

That was why he had on his shoes even though he had board shorts on. He was planning on going to the beach after awhile. He just wanted to relax away from other people first. But now, he knew that that didn't matter. She was here and he had an inkling to bet that she wasn't going to leave him right now.

Camille gave the boy a small smile. "I think I'm alright. It's nothing broken, so it'll heal quickly." She used her thumb to wipe off a bit of the blood and scrunched up her nose. The pain didn't really bother her. It never really did, but playing the damsel in distress seemed to be the boy's weakness.

He offered her a square of ambrosia and she took it gently, and ate it slowly. "Thank you," she told him with a small smile. "I suppose we should all be smarter and carry some ambrosia around with us in case of an emergency." She gave him a small, lightly flirtatious wink, knowing that if she moved too fast, she'd lose him. Like a kitten.

"Son of Athena. That explains a lot. The dreamlike eyes. Sometimes I get jealous of people with gray eyes. They always seem so distant, but they're so down to earth," she said with a small smile. She shook her head and laughed. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling. My name is Camille Devraux. I'm a daughter of Aphrodite. Just don't let the parentage and the fact that I fell down fool you. I am actually a decent fighter." She scrunched up her nose and turned her attention to her leg, which was already starting to heal.

She found his hand reaching for hers and she glanced up with a smile. She accepted his offer and stood up. When she was standing, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze before he let go and glanced down at her outfit. She smirked and did the same. "Actually, I was. I thought it'd been a while since I went out there, so I was going to go today, though I might have taken a wrong turn." She reached up and twirled her blonde hair on her finger for a moment. "Nobody said anything about me being all that bright..."

Chase smiled back at her, glad that she wasn't too hurt. The cut should heal up just fine, especially with the ambrosia that she took from him. "that's good at least." He couldn't help but give a small chuckle at what she had to say next. "Yes. It would be all the more wise for people to do that. It would help out the Apollo kids in the infirmary so much more."

He saw the wink but paid no mind to it at first. Why should he? He shouldn't be flirting with some other girl when he had Olivia right? "Dreamlike? Nah...Not my hazel ones. The gray yes, but somehow I didn't inherit those. I mean mine have flecks of gray but not a lot. Down to earth sounds good though." He said with a genuine teeth-showing smile. He nodded in understanding to her talk of rambling. He found himself doing that sometimes as well so it didn't bug him.

"Aphrodite. Explains a lot about your good looks. I don't judge someone right away on fighting skills. I actually have to see them in action first." He wasn't flirting with her. At least he didn't think he was. Sure he had said she looked good, but you never told a girl she looked ugly. Besides, she was sort of cute. But blonde girls weren't his sip of tea like brunettes were.

Once he pulled her up, he went to let go of her hand but she held onto it for a bit longer and gave it a squeeze. He smiled but raised an eyebrow before letting go. He gave a laugh and a smile before starting to walk towards where he knew the beach was. He looked over his shoulder at her and nodded with his head. "I'll show you were it is. I'm sure you just mistook a tree for another tree. It's easy to get lost in here. Anyone could do that." He never had really gotten lost in here, but a couple people had before and they were always embarrassed. Maybe it was the wisdom from his mom that kept him from getting lost. He really didn't know.

"You’re lucky you found me in there. I was thinking of heading down to the beach today after a while of silence as well." He said with a lopsided smile.

"Well, the greenish-blue eyes are rather dreamlike too," Camille added. "They do, somewhat, remind me of the sea. Back home, the water wasn't all that blue. It was mostly green with a tint of brown to it. I was thinking about it before I started out, to be honest. I decided that a trip to the beach was just what my day needed." She continued to twirl the strand around her finger and dropped the curl. She didn't want to look all that nervous. If she did, it would make the both of them feel awkward, and that was the last thing that she wanted.

"My good looks? I am going to take that as a compliment." She gave a light laugh and crossed her arms over her chest."To be honest, I don't actually get complimented all that often. In fact, most people tell me that I'm stuck up and self-centered because of my mother. Never a word about how hard I work to maintain an appearance to my mother's standards. To each their own, though, I suppose. A child of Athena has their books, and I try to have my looks."

She watched as he gestured for her to follow him. So far, so good... she thought to herself, slowly moving in the same direction. The last thing she needed was to trip over another stick and embarrass herself. Once was chance, but two was a lack of grace.

"I sure hope I didn't ruin your moment of silence, then." She was right beside him, now, but tried to maintain a comfortable distance between them... for now. "But I do appreciate your guidance. Knowing me, I probably would have gotten lost again."

Chase gave a small smile. It seemed no matter what he said about himself, she could turn it good. When she spoke of the sea back home, he couldn't help but grin a bit wider. It seemed she really liked her home. "Believe it or not, I had never been to the beach until I came here. It wasn't near enough for my dad to drive and he was always too busy." He watched as she dropped the strand if hair and wondered if she had been doing it sub consciously.

"Good. That was supposed to be a compliment. I give them out when I know they are true." He frowned and furrowed his eyebrows at what she said next. "Well that's not nice. I believe a person should have to hang with you before you judge them. And so far, you aren't too bad." He ended with a slight grin before adding. "It's not all books. It's smarts, or tech. Or whatever we can improve. And memory as well actually. Just like I'm sure there's more to you and your brothers and sisters than looks."

He started to walk leading the way through the forest. She caught up to him and soon they were walking side-by-side. The beach really wasn't that far from where they were probably only about five minutes. He smiled at her. "Don't worry. I won't get mad about it. It isn't that big of a deal. Just needed to get away from my cabin for a bit. Too many conversations in there."

He chuckled. "Anytime. I try to be as helpful as possible. Especially to girls. But you never know when you might need the help in return. So,..." He shrugged his shoulders. He could start to smell the water now. Probably only a couple minutes. "Why did you walk through the forest instead of going straight there from the cabins?" He said with a hint of a joking jab in the words.
