RP Sample:Kaylee's head was bent over her Arithmancy assignment reading, eyes following the text with intense concentration, trying desperately to focus on the numbers swimming before her eyes.
"Umph!" She groaned, resting her head on the solid pages. If this had been an extra credit assignment, Kaylee would have dropped it in a minute; but sadly, it wasn't.
"That's what you get for studying too long," she told herself with a sigh, glancing at her watch. She had meant to stop after an hour's work to take a break, but she had now been poring over the textbook for a total of two hours and thirty eight minutes. Yay.
Kaylee carefully placed a bookmark in between the pages she was reading and shut the book, but then thought better of it; instead, whispering a spell. “Memini.” It was a nifty little charm, helped when you had several books to read and no bookmarks. Kaylee liked to use it when she was too lazy to turn pages, though.
Stretching her arms luxuriously, the black haired Ravenclaw made her way out of the library and trotted the halls until she got to the courtyard, one of the only places she could relax a bit.
She glanced around the area, noting that not many people were there. Another Ravenclaw, on a bench nearby her; a couple of Hufflepuffs talking further away. Kaylee skirted both of them and glided to the farthest corner, where a crooked-limbed cherry tree grew low to the ground.
With expertise born of practice, she swung herself up to a nice, almost snow-less branch at a middling height, leaning back onto another branch and smiling a bit. Even in the winter, it was comforting just to be there.
General Information
Full Name: Heather Jane Landon
Gender: Female
Birthday: 6/2/1997
Age: 15
Camp Experience: 2 years (Second year)
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Claim Status:
I sort of made this a little complicated here. Technically, Heather is claimed, since she is almost one-hundred percent sure that her mother is the mentioned ‘Nemesis,’ whose name her father gave her accidentally. But she hasn’t told this to anyone yet. The only three people who knew were her father, who is dead, the goddess, and Heather herself. So since the goddess has reasons of her own for withholding the bit of information from the rest of the world, and Heather just really doesn’t care to tell, the secret, for now, is safe. So I guess I would say that Heather is unclaimed.
Divine Parent: Nemesis
Looks
Hair: Slightly curly, dark brown, medium-length.
Eyes: Dark brown, almond-shaped
Height: 5’7’’
Weight: 127 lbs.

Playby: Emma Roberts
Dressing Style:
While Heather never really had a chance to develop a good fashion sense, she did know how to dress. Though most children isolated from the rest of the modern world would probably have horrible tastes, Heather managed to develop an instinct for what went with what. She mainly prefers simple, airy clothes that let her move around a lot, especially with silky, swishy materials. Even she admits that she has a weakness for them. Normally she wears a plain but cute t-shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans, usually topped off with some kind of thin scarf, or possibly a dark beret. Mainly because her father wouldn’t let her, Heather doesn’t have pierced ears. So she doesn’t wear any earrings; though sometimes she plays with the idea of piercing them herself. Dark colors are her kind of thing; grays, dark blues, blacks, and royal purples. All in all, though, Heather just has a very simple, tasteful style that doesn’t seek to attract attention but still stands out a lot.
General Appearance:
Heather is beautiful, no doubt; pretty, too. She definitely would belong on America’s Top Model, or anything else like that. However, she would not ‘fit in.’ From her birth, Heather was blessed – or possibly cursed – with the ability to attract attention. People just noticed her. Not in the way they would notice children of Aphrodite, though; nothing like that. She would stand out as a loner… and oddity. It wasn’t her looks, of course, but Heather had a way of carrying herself… wild, stubborn… and lively. Not lively as in talkative; Heather’s lively was more physical than that. It was every movement, every gesture, every quick, fleeing smile that showed her irrepressible spirit.

Likes:
-Storms; for all her sense justice and equality and fairness and order, Heather fiercely enjoys any kind of wind and rain and lightning
-The ocean; on her first day at Camp Half-blood, she simply fell in love with the sea that was as wild and complicated as herself
-Running; Heather isn’t much for long-distance tracks yet, but she loves putting on bursts of speed and feeling herself almost flying
-Playing with power; though it may not be very angelic of her, she can’t help enjoying the feeling of control
-Birds; she feels a connection with the things of the air: wild, free, and lively
Dislikes:
-Questions; if it’s anyone other than her best chums doing the asking, Heather will (figuratively) bite their head off… though she may do some actual physical damage if the person gets too annoying
-Purposeful injustice; Heather understand that sometimes life just isn’t fair, but she hates it when people play favorites for no reason
-People who don’t know when to shut up and sit down; Heather has nothing against people who just talk a lot, but these kinds of people irk her to no end
-Sentimental, mushy stuff; it literally makes her want to throw up… one of her favorite sayings is “that sappy mush is insulting to my presence”
-The male population; don’t get this wrong – she is NOT an advocate of the Hunter’s cause, she just thinks the world would be a lot simpler if they didn’t have to exist… there’s nothing personal about it; she can be friendly with boys too
Fears:
-Eerie silences; there were a lot of them back in her father’s house, so they creep her to death now
-Those odd people who can’t deal with a let down and go crazy; believe me, she’s seen a lot of them and they’re scary
-Truth or Dare; she’s played that game exactly once, when practically (physically!) forced to by a visiting cousin, and hates and fears it with all her heart
-Secrets; she has no problem with keeping a few of her own, but when she comes up against them in the outside world, Heather is a little unnerved by the big ones
Secrets:
Heather had tried to fade into the background from the start, and though the attempt was very unsuccessful, most people didn’t bother her. She didn’t want to be bothered with friendships, didn’t want to have to deal with questions. Nobody had taken much notice of her; even Chiron hadn’t paid too much attention to Heather, after the initial introduction. So no one knew yet who her godly parent was; and Heather wasn’t about to tell them. Her feelings were still a little muddled. What kind of a mom ignored her abused child for thirteen years and then just appeared to send her off to some camp? But everyone around her seemed to take the neglect of their parents in a less serious light… maybe goddesses went by different rules? Still, it was hard to know what to think, so for now, Heather stayed silent; and Nemesis, in the godly realms, had her own reasons for keeping a closed mouth.
Then there’s the promise her ‘mother’ gave her. What was the deal with all the suffering and doom and then… rewards? Compensation for anything that she’d done was an alien thought to Heather. All her previous hard work had been an attempt to win her father’s love, which she didn’t get. And then there was something about taking a second path… She really had no idea what this stuff was about, and didn’t want to find out. It was enough to have a philandering dad and a wacko mom without having to deal with a stupid, vague and stuffy promise otherwise. So on that topic, her lips were sealed.
Heather wasn’t really too talkative, so her father’s death could also be considered a ‘secret.’ Landon was a fairly common name. A thirteen year old mother-less daughter named Heather Jane Landon had never been mentioned in any of the papers she had bought about her father’s death. She didn’t seek to volunteer any information, anyhow. It wasn’t that Heather didn’t want people to start talking about it – she was perfectly indifferent to that. She just didn’t want people to ask questions about it.
Ambitions:
For someone who had family and friends in the mortal world, one of Heather’s ambitions might have seemed very strange. To live at Camp Half-blood all her life, to watch the seasons change from the position of Minor God Cabin Counselor, to find her place in the busy camp and keep it… She wanted to stay for all these reasons. One she never admitted to herself, though, was to watch… and wait… and make sure that no new, unsettled, slightly confused camper was ever without a friend, feeling confused, lost, and depressed like she felt on the first day.
Like most usual half-bloods, Heather had never really known her godly parent. And despite all the neglect she’d suffered, she still cherished a half-hope that they might meet again. After all, it was normal to want to know about her mother, even if she was a pretty awful one, Heather kept telling herself.
To tell the truth, though, the thing Heather wants most is to figure out herself through and through. Her personality is more complicated than most, due to her odd bringing up and of course, her godly parentage. For a lot of people, just knowing their likes and dislikes would be enough for them, but Heather wants to understand why she does things and who she really is.

Family and History
Personal History:
A relatively short outline for those who don’t have time to read the long one:
1. Mr. Astor Landon, a young lawyer, and Ms. (Nemesis) Calloway, another young lawyer, meet through the involvement of the same case.
2. They get to know each other after meeting for purely technical reasons and get married.
3. They separate after a year and Nemesis leaves Astor with the three month old Heather.
4. Mr. Landon uses somewhat unorthodox methods to raise his rather homely child, but gets tired of being a father and commits his energy to making money.
5. Heather grows to a ten year old craving her father’s love and not getting it, despite all her heroic efforts to please.
6. She snaps at age eleven and decides she doesn’t want her father’s love anymore after being cruelly rebuffed numerous times, spending a year to try and find out why.
7. She gives up trying to find out and instead, rebels for a year.
8. After that year, Nemesis shows up, mysteriously involves herself in Astor Landon’s startling death, and sends her child to Camp Half-blood.
9. Heather spends her first year at Camp Half-blood enjoying her freedom, learning about her powers, training, and being rather unsociable.
WARNING: EXTREMELY LONG, 1,937 WORD HISTORY OF WHICH I AM VERY PROUD OF COMING UP! SKIP IF YOU HAVE A SHORT ATTENTION SPAN AND READ THE OUTLINE!
Heather’s father had been just another one of those young, aspiring lawyers fresh out of collage, hoping for a lucky case to catapult them to fame and fortune. As is usual with his kind, that lucky case did not come, despite his father’s wide influence and large fortune. For a while, Landon jr. played with a couple of minor cases here and there, until he met a certain vivacious, cool young lady lawyer who went by the name of Ms. Callaway.
At first they got together purely for technical reasons, since they were working on the same case for opposing sides. Then it gradually began to get less informal. They started talking of other things besides their cases, though the gods (literally) knew what they had in common. Astor Landon was enthusiastic about nearly everything, still quite a boyish man, and real rascal when he wasn’t working. Nemesis, for the time, was cool, efficient, and hardly ever smiled. Both, however, had one major like trait: an obsession with justice. Outside of the courtroom, Astor might be mischievous enough, but inside it he was a different man… a dangerous, pleasantly cutting, relentless man. The Greek goddess didn’t think much of his behavior on the whole, but she could not help but admire his ruthless determination to help divvy out a fair sentence.
Perhaps this was the only thing that kept the two vastly different people together for that short year after Astor rashly proposed to Nemesis, and she, though with some misgivings, accepted. Soon it was clear that Nemesis never could tolerate her current husband’s wild ways, and animated Astor could not stomach to see his wife’s perpetually cool expression. In the end, Nemesis left him with a little child barely three months old: Heather.
Well, Mr. Landon certainly didn’t know a thing about bringing up children, but he was determined to try. Many odd and silly notions from his own childhood were put to work; other various pieces of advice from (usually) joking friends, and of course, his own sense of justice also had a role in ‘the raising of the child.’ At first he was thought of nothing else, determined to ‘do things right.’ But later he got bored of watching the quiet, ugly little girl who sometimes scared him with her intense gaze. So Astor Landon got busy with work. He took more cases, studied through the night, and shamelessly neglected his only child, getting richer all the while.
No doubt any normal child who grew up only with an often negligent and very queer father would have become a thoroughly disagreeable, wretchedly miserable teenager, even all odd experiments aside. But Heather had never been normal from her birth. After all, she was the child of a goddess! Yet even – no, especially – half-bloods had problems. The bigger ones didn’t show their heads until later, though.
In the meanwhile, Heather grew up. It would have been a rather interesting experience to note the changes in her; some subtle, some not so subtle. Her father wasn’t around to see most of it, though, and nobody else really cared. So over the course of two short years, she grew alone. Beauty, a thing of her dreams as a little seven year old, became a reality in her teens. Her gaze, which had unnerved nearly everyone who met her, grew sharper and perceived a lot more than anyone ever knew. But the biggest change was not on the outside. At age ten, Heather Jane Landon had been starving for a scrap love from her unresponsive father. By age eleven, she decided that she no longer wanted it, and spent a while trying to figure out why. By twelve, she had given up trying to understand herself and went into a calm rebellion against the world.
Her diligent studying, her straight A+ report card, her quiet respect, all those things flew to the wind as little Miss Landon mutinied against authority. An astounded Mr. Landon then tried to sooth his daughter with promises of toys, sweets, all those things which she had pined for in her younger days. How surprised he was when she rejected his friendly overtures – for really, Astor had acquired a renewed interest in his now quite pretty, accomplished daughter.
Any real parent could have told Mr. Landon that he was a real idiot to offer a stick of peppermint to try and win over the heart of a long-neglected child. He, however, was still quite surprised that his daughter should act so outrageously and yet keep quite cold and calm. Truth be told, the two years of ‘growing up’ had done a lot more to his girl that he could have imagined. She held her own, rebuffed all of his bribes and threats to behave, and thoroughly annoyed Mr. Landon, who by then was used to getting his own way in everything. They were at a standstill, or rather, Heather held her father in a checkmate. He knew what he wanted, but couldn’t get it. She didn’t know what she wanted.
So, finally, after about a year of tense conflict, Nemesis stepped in. Of all things that could happen, this was the least likely and not at all thought of by either the father or the daughter. Both of them were affected badly by the encounter, which they took as a memory for the rest of their lives. In Astor’s case, that wasn’t very long, but Heather would carry that burden for a very long time. For such a big impact on the Landons, Nemesis’s appearance was actually very brief.
“You will send her to Camp Half-blood, Astor,” the black-haired goddess had said quietly to the astonished lawyer. “But Nemesis-” He only managed to get out two words before the goddess herself interrupted. “Your time is up.” Her father’s face, turned white as a ghost, was burned into Heather’s mind thereafter. Then Nemesis said to Heather: “My dear child, you think that you suffer. Compared to what comes later, this will be to you as nothing. But I promise you that when the time comes, your rewards will be just as great as your pain. Just remember to take the second way.” After that, goddess left.
Things happened with remarkable swiftness after her departure. Mr. Landon, still pale-faced, had commanded Heather to pack her bags. The somewhat bewildered thirteen year old complied with her father’s wishes for the first time in three years, and last time forever. Then she was rather disrespectfully shoved into a taxi by one of the servants and had left her former home before she knew it. At that point, though, Heather hardly cared. Her mind was whirling with rather unsettling shock. Was this her mother?
She had finally arrived at Camp Half-blood after about an hour of monotonous driving. Stepping out of the taxi, Heather had been greeted by a thick, pea-soup kind of mist which did not bode well for the rest of her stay. The taxi driver had spun off the minute she stepped out, so there had been no where to go but forward. And then, after she fell flat on her face a couple of times, up. It had been rather complicated, granted, to stumble her way up the hill... but her view when she got to the top was completely worth it.
Camp Half-blood had really been Heather's first view of the New England countryside- and it certainly had been a view. Free from any of the oppressing fog that had clothed the rest of the island, the picturesque camp had all the benefit of cheery sunshine that flooded the valley. For Heather, it was like walking into heaven after a trip through hell. It wasn’t just the taxi ride and the fog and mist and falling on her face… for most of her life, Heather had been cooped up in a dark, strictly angular, unfriendly mansion that had been her father’s childhood home. To her, the camp was like her idea of heaven… and it was the first place she’d ever felt at home.
So after Chiron had taken her through the formalities of first-time campers, Heather knew without a doubt that she would be a year-rounder. Time slipped by soon enough. She trained alone, ate alone when she could help it, rebuffed most friendships, and enjoyed herself thoroughly. For once in her life, she was free to do her own thing, and Heather took advantage of that in the full. Her whole first year at Camp Half-blood was spent in training, fitting into camp life… and discovering her powers.
The first time was quite by accident. She had noticed some sons of Ares being their usual bullying selves to a first-timer of course half-their size. And it made her quite coldly furious. It just wasn’t fair. Her first couple of weeks at camp had been too engrossing for Heather to notice anything but herself, however selfish that may have seemed. But this time, her sense of fair play took hold, and something clicked in Heather’s mind. For two unblinking minutes, the group was calmly gazed at by a certain thirteen year old half-blood with large, dark brown eyes that seemed to grow with each second.
The next minute, the group was attacked by a relatively normal-looking species of Venus fly trap with a few minor alterations. One, it had very sharp teeth that apparently, by the look on some of their faces, could bite through celestial bronze. Two, it could somehow grow at the speed of light – much faster than the bullies. And three, it seemed to be only interested in the aforementioned sons of Ares. The bullied camper was left completely alone, while the others did not fare as well. Four sullen, embarrassed campers showed their faces in the medical hall that day, requesting aid for their ‘flower bites.’ It took about seven weeks for the teasing to die down; which an exhausted Heather had considered punishment enough, since though the bullies weren’t reformed, they got what was coming to them.
Still, it took a while for her to figure them out; the whole year, in fact. What with all the chores and training; she’d had a very busy first year. All work aside, though, Heather had also had to deal with her father’s death. She hadn’t found out until she had got a call from her father’s lawyer. It turned out that Mr. Landon had died, supposedly from an unexpected heart attack, soon after she left. Heather didn’t buy it. Her healthy father with a zest for life, die of a heart attack? It was ridiculous, and everyone knew it. Even Mr. Harris, the dry, humorless family lawyer, had sounded very doubtful when he told her about it; and had immediately afterwards informed her that there were a lot of technical complications going on… which Heather translated to: they thought her father had been murdered.
Heather had had, and still did have very mixed feelings about it all. Her mortal parent was dead; the only one she’d ever felt for, albeit it was a feeling of passionate dislike. What was left? Her father’s vast fortune, of no use to a thirteen year old girl… and a grumpy looking goddess who didn’t even show herself until things got bad, and promised her kid that she would have a rough time. Not the best set of parents. All in all, Heather’s first year was rather rough, what with settling in and all. So it was only in her second year that she began to open up and be a little friendlier to other campers.
Heather's been claimed! It's in this thread. She's not sure how she feels at this point, though her initial reaction was anger. Her mother showing some kind of interest in her should make her happy, but it's been a long time since Heather's felt anything but hostility towards either of her parents.
