Tal traced the end of her finger in a stray pile of sand at the end of the bench she was perched on, the book she was supposed to read closed on her lap. She had nothing to do, absolutely nothing. Classes were cancelled and the infirmary was full to the brim...Tal herself had been discharged, and now there was nothing to do. At least, in the infirmary, there was lots of company.
Normally, now would be a time to go hang out with her half-brother, Bailey Allison, but she was still embarrassed about the way she had acted in front of him earlier, totally spilling her guts and crying in front of him. To be honest, Tal was sort of avoiding him should he ask her about it. Not that he really would. But still.
Picking a stray blade of grass from the area in between tiles, Tal twirled it around her finger like this blade of grass could transform her life into something magical and perfect, and that this stupid grass was actually interesting, the most interesting thing she had ever come across. Really, she was just trying to distract herself from thinking about embarrassing things she'd done. Why was it that your brain always forgot things you wanted to remember and remembered things you'd obviously be better off forgetting? Tal hated this fact...
She was trying to split the stupid blade of grass in half, but it just tore the other direction and fluttered to the ground. Tal watched them fall onto the dirty ground, and then used her good foot to stomp on the halves of the stupid grass. Grind it into the dirt. Gone forever.
Screw her life...
