Rain poured hard, pounding against everything it could land on. The sky wasn't visible beneath the black clouds choking it, crying to the ground. Each huge raindrop hit the ground with force, crashing against the dirt and making it mud. It rained like this for a long time, until the first strike of lightning broke loose. It banged hard, lighting up everything for a split second. A perfect strike. Ten seconds later, rumbling thunder boomed hard. The second lightning was just a flash. The whole night was illuminated, shining, beaming. For a moment. That was when Olivia woke up.
She couldn't even believe she let herself miss even a part of this storm. Liv smiled and hopped out of bed. She grabbed a t-shirt, her fleece jacket and some dark jeans and immediately threw them on. She pulled on some weatherproof Sorel boots and dashed out. Olivia always rode a pegasus through storms like these. Hard, cold raindrops, cracking lightning, booming thunder. She never worried about getting hit. She didn't have to. She sprinted all the way to the pegasus stables and coaxed her usual horse, Skyhigh, out of his stable with an apple. Then she realized that she hadn't even ridden Skyhigh since ... she met Chase. She remembered. It was the day she had met him, the night she had fallen in love. He had been such a stranger then. They had been riding, and she fell off, and he found her again, and he carried her all the way across camp to the infirmary. It had only been about a month ago, but it had felt like forever. It had practically been love at first sight.
Smiling at memories, Liv swung her leg over Skyhigh and he flapped his wings up to the black clouds, raindrops beating down on her. Liv was already soaked, and it felt sort of nice. She wrapped her arms around Skyhigh, laying her head on his mane and grinning to herself, watching the sky. She darkened the storm, whipping the rain in different directions with the wind. She loved playing around with storms. It was fun and her dad hated it. There was nothing better than something that brought to joy her that annoyed Zeus. The clouds darkened with anger and Liv laughed. She knew he didn't have the guts to blast her. He could never do that.
Storms at night were the best. Liv could escape when everyone was asleep. She didn't really like the publicize the fact that her father was Zeus. People always got the wrong impression of her, treated her differently. Some people just immediately thought that they had to be polite and nice to her or Zeus would turn them into some supercrispy fried chicken. No one ever treated her like a normal person. It was just plain irritating. No one liked being irritated or frustrated, and Liv damn well was the same.
Olivia rode around the sky all night, streaking over camp. The storm weakened overnight. The rain ceased until it was just a plain drizzle. Beams of weak, pitiful morning sunlight were cast in the east. Liv landed Skyhigh who was clearly exhausted from riding around camp all night. She got off of Skyhigh and squeezed out her rainsoaked hair. She ran her fingers through it, unknotting it. She was pretty much soaked through and through. Yawning, she started making her way to her cabin when she heard footsteps that startled her.
