Summer didn't know why she still came to the arena. Watching other practice only made her feel worse. She had said she had put down her bow for good. But could that work? A sigh escaped her lips as she continued walking in that general direction. It was like her own personal punishment. She hadn't faced Tal since the infirmary. She didn't know what else to say to her. Her hands stuck in the pockets of her jacket and her head went down to look at the ground. It was cold. It had rained earlier in the morning, so there were puddles everywhere.
When she finally got there, she noticed that it was already fairly busy. People were throwing daggers at moving targets, sword fighting with others, and practicing with the bows and arrows. It was a little after breakfast, so not many people were here yet. She took a seat in the bleachers and watched the arrows fly through the air. Her face full of sadness, she turned it towards the sword fighting. But even that made her sad. It made her think of her brother. He had seemed disappointed in her, but understood at the same time. He tried to get the blame off of her shoulders. That's why he had taken her to the Christmas party. It had worked for awhile, until she had gone back to the cabin.
She closed her eyes, resisting the urge to cry. She had been fighting that urge for awhile now. It was just so stressful. She didn't know where to go and who to hang with that would understand. She hasn't seen Jensen in awhile, Mitch was always with Katrina, her cabin was busy in the infirmary, even Hadley seemed to be busy, there was no where for the daughter of Apollo to go but the arena. Even the beach and lake seemed to happy for her, and the water was too cold. She sighed again wishing she could just let her fears and stress go with the simplicity of archery. At least, simplicity for her.
Her eyes instead turned towards the people throwing daggers and knives. One in particular caught her eye after watching for a moment. She furrowed her eyebrows at the guys back trying to figure out where she had seen him before. When he turned around slightly, it looked as if he was laughing at something some girl said, she saw his face. It was Milo. She gave a ghost of a smile. He had came up to talk to her once or twice before. He had seemed friendly enough. But she watched as he threw.
Every knife seemed to hit the bullseye. Her eyes narrowed and an eyebrow went up as she concentrated more on it. It almost seemed like he had perfect accuracy. There it was! Another bullseye. It reminded her too much of her power though. She dropped her head and gave out a sigh that ended in a strangled sort of sound. Her shoulders jerked once, the urge to cry upcoming again. She closed her eyes and tried to control her breathing. She didn't want to lose it out here. The sounds of the daggers embedding themselves in the targets shot right through her.
Each one reminding her of her own accuracy. Then a thudded one sounded. Like it had buried itself in a dummy. She tilted her head up slightly to see the dagger in the gut of a dummy. That broke it. That was too much. A tear streamed down her face as she dipped it again. Her arms went around her stomach as she tried unsuccessfully to stifle a sob. She hoped no one looked over. She prayed to Apollo. But it seemed her prayers wouldn't be answered as a shadow fell over her.
