Lyall sat in the back corner of the Attic, his dark orbs trained steadily on the old book on his lap. He had sneaked up to the attic when no one had been looking, much to his personal pleasure.
He didn't think anybody would be able to find him here, at least not for a few hours. Yet, he did wonder about that, his big brother was arguable very good at finding Wolf when he wanted to. He could only hope Finn didn't find him until he was done with at least a few chapters.
Snuggling closer to the wall, Lyall checked quickly around him for any bugs before going back to his book.
"We know what we are but not what we may be." Ophelia in Hamlet.
The young boy leaned back, his gaze turning towards the ceiling as he pondered the words. What we may be? The question itself was very thought provoking in it's own way. He could be anything, not just what he knew he was.
He knew his identity now, but he could become whatever he actually wanted to be. The interesting part of the quote, to Lyall, was that the lady, Ophelia, provides these encouraging words in a lengthy speech. A speech that just so happened to precede her decision to end her life over the despair she experienced as a result of what she perceived as Hamlet's , unjust condemnation of her.
It took a few moments for Lyall to remember the quote, before grinning to himself in satisfaction.
"They say the owl was a baker's daughter..." The context in which the quote occurred provided a certain irony but on its own, the idea that there are no limits to his, or anybodies potential was wonderful words to ponder and perhaps live by.
Sighing softly, Lyall flipped through a few pages. There were quite a few quotes in the book that he had memorized by heart. Little sayings from Emily Dickinson or Albert Einstein that he honestly liked add put to memory.
He didn't really think anybody knew how much of a book worm the youngest McCain actually was. He was sometimes surprised with himself at how fast he could metaphorically devour a book from cover to cover.
Stifling a yawn, Lyall blinked his eyes a few times as he turned another page. He was starting to become tired, something he should have expected, since he hadn't got much sleep the night before.
He had been to busy trying to read a book on psychology when everybody had been fast asleep. He didn't honestly know how long he could last trying to hide his little secret, but he had no plans on quitting. He'd just continue with his studying until he was caught.
Yet, even then he didn't really think he would quit. He'd just hope nobody started calling him an Athena kid. That would be the worst.
