Completely clueless as to how to create a character that the admins will love? Have no idea what the difference is between the many character groups? This thread should answer all your questions!
CHARACTER GROUPS
DEMIGODS
These are people with one mortal parent and one godly parent. The godly parent can range from someone minor (like Nike) to someone major (like Zeus). Most of the time, the godly parent's traits will greatly influence the person's personality. For example, Hermes is the god of tricksters, and his kids are usually pranksters. Also, unless one is really unlucky, s/he will inherit at least one power related to their godly parent's domain. For example, Hermes is the god of messengers, and his kids are very fast.
But being a demigod can suck. They're always getting sniffed out by monsters and being attacked. Once one has been claimed, his or her scent only increases. This is why Camp sends out satyrs to find them and bring them back to Camp, the only safe place for them, before getting killed. Oh, and demigods are vulnerable to both mortal metals (steel, bronze, etc) AND immortal metals (celestial bronze). The good news is that most will have ADHD! This allows them to have amazing reaction times.
Other abilities that demigods will have are dyslexia, the ability the communicate with their parent's sacred animal, the ability to see through the Mist, and the ability to consume small amounts of ambrosia and nectar without spontaneously combusting.
CABIN LEADERS
These lucky (or maybe it's more like unlucky) demigods will have been campers for years and are way more experienced. They're in charge of their cabin's members both IC and OOC. They will also represent their cabin during meetings at the Big House. They can be elected by members, chosen by an admin, or they can apply in the CL sign-up thread! However, this doesn't guarantee them the position for the rest of their life at Camp. If you character thinks that s/he could do a way better job than the current CL, s/he could challenge them! PM an admin for permission before informing the current CL. All challenges will be conducted though RPing.
HUNTERS OF ARTEMIS
These are maidens (human, demigod, or nymph) who have pledged their selves to Artemis and have vowed never to fall in love. Doesn't sound all that great, huh? But in exchange, they get eternal youth (unless they die during battle), amazing hunting skills, the ability to speak to wolves and falcons, magical weapons, and the ability to travel around the world with Artemis, hunting! Awesome, huh? So how exactly does one sign up for this amazing deal? Well, first of all, one must be a chaste girl. Sorry guys! She must then take an oath, and if Artemis accepts, she's in!
DEMINYMPHS and NYMPHS
Deminymphs are children of a nature spirit (such as a nymph). S/he can either be a normal demigod or a nature spirit like his/her divine parent. Males are most likely going to be normal demigods while females are most likely going to be spirits.
Nymphs are minor goddesses, or spirits, of nature. They fall into one of four categories: water, wind, wood, and cloud; and they are usually associated with a particular landform or location. Both nymphs and deminymphs will spend much of their time outside since they love nature.
CAMP COUNSELORS
These people, not to be counfused with Cabin Leaders, will most likely be former campers who have come back to aid Mr. D in running the camp. They will teach lessons, organize camp activities, help the harpies with dishes, and more. The best part? They get to dole out punishments! If you wish to make one, s/he must be at least 21.
MAKING YOUR CHARRIE
Now that you understand the different groups and decided what exactly your charrie's going to be, you must make him or her!
While creating him or her, pay special attention to the appearance, personality, and history. These need to be as detailed as possible. We will never ask for less words, but we will ask for more. Also remember to add as many flaws as possible! Flawed people are fun to play. We also don't want overly tragic stories. Killing off their entire family, forcing them to live on the streets, giving them an abusive uncle who's abused them in 50 different ways, and having them sold into slavery WILL NOT make the admins happy.
And if you fail to heed our warning, you may end up with...
THE DREADED MARY-SUE
Keep in mind that this can also be a Gary-Stu.
Who exactly is she? She's the person who isn't flawed at all. Or if she does have a flaw, it's something like, "She can't go anywhere without guys hitting on her! And it's so damn annoying!" They also tend to have everyone like them, and they're sweet, beautiful, intelligent, athletic, funny, and have the most amazing singing voice. No. Just no. Your charrie is not perfect. No one is perfect, so why should s/he be?
But Mary-Sue isn't the only annoying character... There's also her cousin...
THE DREADED ANTI-SUE
Again, this can also be an Anti-Stu
What is an Anti-Sue? She (sometimes a he) is the character with an overly tragic past. Their parents/guardians are drunk or dead, and they suffered multiple types of abuse. Yet, they remain upbeat and optimistic, and everyone loves them. Please don’t do this. Tragic histories are seriously overdone, not to mention unrealistic. No one can suffer all of that without going crazy or being messed up.
WHAT DOTD NEEDS
Got all that? Great! Now, are you feeling extra nice? Of course you are... So you're going to make a character type that DotD needs! Be sure to check this part frequently.
