Walking along the shore his shoes in the sand off somewhere long behind him. Nathan had his jeans rolled up as he walked in the sand and water, kicking it up it into the air occasionally. He walked for what seemed like hours but where in reality only moments and he still had lots of time to kill before going back to the cabin. He needed somewhere off and secluded, off the beaten trail where his siblings wouldn't find him. Not only was it their time for musical training but he was feeling exceptionally down and sad today. Nathan was lost, his feelings were a big blurry mess.

Six years ago when he first arrived at camp he met all of his siblings all of them were great and greeted him warmly, however one of them made him feel welcome, like they had known each other for years and that this was just another meet up. She introduced him to camp. She was three years older then him, his sister Mia. everything was great and he was happy he spent most of his time with Mia, he was even going to pick up the guitar again and write her a "Great Big Sister Song" but after only a few weeks at camp she was gone with the hunters. Nathan took it all very hard. He didn't eat for a good week, and broke into tears at least once a week.He was a mess.

Stopping in his tracks he took a seat in the sand and looked out onto the sea. The sun was beginning to set, he didn't have to worry thought his brothers and sisters would practice until dawn if they could. He stretched out onto his back looking up at the sky. Starry sky that shine's so bright. Why isn't she here tonight?

The sun hung low in the sky, and like clockwork, Mia appeared at the very end of the beach. She paused for a second, filling her lungs with the salty air, and took off. Although she didn't really need the extra training, Mia still savored her evening runs on the beach. The view was always nice, and for a precious few minutes, she was completely alone. And of course, there was the unspoken bonus that if she just concentrated on the patch of sand in front of her, Mia could almost imagine that she was back home in Melbourne.

Almost.

Stop it, she scolded herself. Just focus on the run, the beach. Closing her eyes, Mia focused on the sensation of flying that always came when she was running. Faster. A brief tailwind urged her on, and she picked up speed, her bare feet just barely brushing the sand. How far had she gone? She didn’t want to find out. As soon as she opened her eyes, she would immediately be reminded of her present location, which was several thousand kilometers from where she wanted to be. However, at the rate she was going, it wouldn’t take long before she crashed into something… or someone.

Mia blinked as her surroundings came into view. Ahead was a clear expanse of beach, but several meters down and to her right was a lone figure lying on the sand. Her eyes widened, and she stopped suddenly, digging her toes into the sand to keep from falling.

Was that Nathan?

Even in the distance, Mia could immediately tell that the boy staring up at the sky was indeed her little brother. Well, maybe not little. He wasn’t a scrawny little kid anymore; he was taller, more muscular. He was—Mia quickly did the math—sixteen. Sixteen… older than she would ever be. It was all too strange. This was why she had avoided the people from her pre-Hunter days. Until now, she had succeeded for the most part.

For a brief moment, Mia had the sudden urge to run away and pretend this had never happened. She still had the chance… Nathan hadn’t spotted her yet. But her feet refused to move. At the very least, she owed him an apology for suddenly taking off without a goodbye. It had been so much easier trying to forget everything, but she couldn’t do that now. Not to her little brother. If leaving him had upset her, Mia could only imagine how he had felt.

She approached him silently. What do you say to a brother you haven’t seen in six years? Finally, she decided to go with what felt most natural. Moving so that she was in his view, Mia quipped, “Isn’t it a bit early to go stargazing? Or are we cloud-watching?” She flashed him a hesitant smile.

Where have you been? I haven't seen you for so long

Nathan lay his head on his palms as he watched the gray and blue sky into a festive orange tinged with red and yellow, as the sun began to set on the horizon of the camp. He thought about Annabelle and how she would love to see this and take a picture or twenty. Ahhh Annabelle. Nathan wasn't quite sure what was up with her and himself. He hadn't seen her since they spent an early morning together at the Big House. She was a very good photographer and he.... was not. Even with her letting him take a few pictures, they never turned out as good as hers except for this one he took of the both of them, he kept that one for himself.

Nathan took out the photo and just stared at it with his chocolate brown eyes, smiling to himself. He hoped he would get to see her again, soon. He liked himself when he was with her, she made him feel whole again, like she is the only one who makes him feel like he could ever get better, that would believe in him. However he knew any of his siblings would help him and get him through this especially Summer, they were as close as anything and even if they weren't that's just the kind of person she is, always helping others.

He carried the picture with him everywhere in his pocket, he didn't know what would happen for the two of them but he was hoping something good, although he wished he could use this prophecy gift of his to read her mind or something. Closing his eyes at the thought of Annabelle made him relax and he actually enjoyed himself for a few moments. “Isn’t it a bit early to go stargazing? Or are we cloud-watching?” a voice came from in front of him. Lazily opening his eyes he started " Who cares which one I am doin..." he trailed off seeing the face of someone he thought he'd never lay eyes on again.

"You!" he said loudly in amazement as he stood up. "Mia!" he said. Brushing the sand off himself he stammered "Is this...Is it really you?" he asked poking her in the arm to make sure she wasn't an illusion. He looked down on her now, compared to when they first met and she was taller then him. "Gods what has it been....you're 19 now I think and you were 13 when you left.... Gods six years Mia!" he said doing the math as he went. Saying it all out loud erased the smile from his face, to be replaced with a frown of sadness. "Why didn't you tell me, or even say goodbye" he said hurt evident in his words. Mia both made his world better but also wrecked it.

Mia laughed as his face twisted in comprehension, and he jumped up. She took a step back to avoid the spray of sand as he voiced his disbelief. “No, Nathan, this is all an elaborate dream,” she retorted, poking him back. “Besides, shouldn’t I be the one asking you that question? I still look like myself. You’re the one who grew a foot, which by the way, is so not fair.” Despite the fact that he now had half a foot over her, she stubbornly decided that he would still be her little brother, and she would refer to him as such.

Mia nodded soberly, confirming her age. Nineteen… She certainly didn’t feel nineteen. But she didn’t feel thirteen either. Would it be like this for the rest of her life? Would she always feel stuck somewhere between her true age and her technical age, sometimes feeling completely removed from the concept of time itself? How did the older Hunters do it? Then again, they had had thousands of years to cope with the feeling.

Although she been expecting the question, the words still stung, wiping her smile away. Immediately after joining the Hunt, Mia had spent days trying to answer the question. However, it wasn’t just Nathan. Why hadn’t she told anyone? Even her parents hadn’t found out for months. After spending a week moping around, she had decided to completely forget her past and concentrate on the present. It had worked fairly well so far…

“It happened so quickly… I left that night.” She paused, trying to come up with a sufficient reason for disappearing so suddenly. “I don’t think I even realized what I had done. I guess I thought I’d be back soon enough.” Mia bowed her head, trying to avoid eye contact with him so that he wouldn’t know she was lying. He could probably still tell… Thanks to her godly parentage, she had never been a good liar. Of all the male gods, why did her father have to be the God of Truth?

The truth was that she had known exactly what she had been doing. After all, it had been the second time Lady Artemis had sought her out, looking to add to her collection of Hunters. That night, as Mia packed her bags in the dark, it had occurred to her that she should say goodbye to her siblings and maybe even a few friends from the other cabins. However, Mia had been seized with the irrational fear that if she took too long, the opportunity would slip away. She couldn’t risk that, not when the possibility of going home was within her grasp. She had been so willing to do anything just to see Melbourne and her family again that if leaving Camp forever had been the price, she didn’t mind paying it.

“I’m sorry,” she finally said, looking him in the eye. At least that much was true. “Nothing I say will change what I did six years ago, and I’m so sorry for hurting you.”

Nathan gave one of his of so famous half smirks and started to laugh as he fought off her pokes. "Alright Alright! Just making sure" he said holding his hands up in defense and defeat, quickly giving her the last poke. Mia began talking about all the changes he's gone through and how she hadn't really changed. He half smiled "Well then...there is a down side to Immortality" he said looking down on his 19 year old sister who was trapped in a 13 year olds body but she would always be his older sister who had welcomed him to camp his very first day and made him feel more at home then he had ever felt at his own house with his mom.

This was really hard! Trying to keep his cool, when really all he wanted to do was run up to his sister and give her the biggest bear hug ever known to bears. He felt like he was going to just break down right then and there. He couldn't take it anymore, he lurched forward and consumed his sister into a huge hug. Stiffening and eyes widening he backed away just as he came to his senses "Errr....sorry...I don't know if Artemis would...errr ... appreciate you hugging me" he said apologetically and awkwardly shuffling his feet.

As soon as Mia diverted her eyes to the ground he knew she was lying. He felt like he had just been punched in the face. He thought that his siblings could confide anything in him, so having his sister lie right to his face...it hurt. He looked down at the ground and sighed "I thought we were brother and sister. I thought we could tell each other anything and everything." he said looking into her eyes with his chocolate brown ones. Then again it wasn't that hard to tell when Mia was lying, their dad was, after all the god of truth, Apollo.

Just starring into her eyes he was confused on how he felt about the whole situation. He was happy his sister was back, a little mad that she hadn't told him, sad that she didn't care about him enough to tell him the truth. The feeling of exploding washed over him, god he had the emotional range of a tea spoon.

Taking a deep breath he smiled and looked Mia in the eyes "I'm not mad Mia or sad even." he said realizing his feelings. "I know it was a great opportunity for you, because that's what you wanted.... it was what you wanted right? Because I'm pretty sure Artemis holds a binding contract without loop holes." he said not doing anything just stood there appreciating the fact his sister was right there in front of him.

“I guess so…” Mia said, responding to his immortality quip. She shrugged dismissively before adding with a smile, “I should’ve waited until I was at least 5’8’’. 5’4’’ is embarrassing. But I suppose I’m lucky I waited until I was 13. There’s a couple of 10 year olds who barely hit the five foot mark...” As she rambled on, Mia noticed that Nathan seemed a bit antsy. After hunting for six years, she had developed a keen eye, and that was pretty much all it took to decipher emotions in both people and monsters.

Just as she thought she was overthinking things, Nathan lunged. Instinct took over, and Mia found herself balanced on the balls of her feet, body angled away, one hand searching for a hunting knife that wasn’t there. It took her a moment to register that he was hugging her, an action that had not only grown foreign to her, but was also not entirely welcome. When had she given any indication that she wanted to be hugged?

Still, she suppressed her frown and awkwardly wrapped her arms around him, hoping he’d let go soon. Nathan seemed to notice and pulled away. He fumbled an apology, and Mia decided to let it go. She didn’t really want to launch into a rant about consent (not that it would’ve helped… males tended to remain clueless not matter how many times you lectured them), so she gave him an easy smile. “I don’t think she would mind me hugging my little brother,” she paused, her smile shifting into a smirk, “which is a shame because you would make a cute jackrabbit.”

Conversation shifted to the past, and Mia winced as he spoke, hurt tinging his words. “We are brother and sister. And we can tell each other anything and everything… eventually.” She paused, struggling to maintain eye contact. “I’m just not ready yet.” Truth be told, Mia didn’t think he was ready either. How was she supposed to explain that she had chosen her mortal sister over him? That she became a hunter in the hopes of seeing her family sooner? And of course, six years was a fairly long time. Mia suspected that Nathan had changed as much as she had during those six years, and she needed some time to adjust. Thankfully, time was the one thing she had an abundance of, and she had no doubt that they would soon fall back into the comfortable friendship they had once shared.

Nathan’s next comment surprised her, and Mia searched his face, making sure he was telling the truth. Finally, she gave him a grateful smile and nodded. “Yeah, it was definitely what I wanted.” As much as she liked imagining an alternate life without being a Hunter, Mia wouldn’t give up the experiences she had collected while on the Hunt for anything. Lady Artemis had given her nearly everything she could possibly have wanted.

Waving away a mosquito, Mia turned slightly, taking in the whole Camp. She glanced up at Nathan, overcome with curiosity. “What about you? Anything interesting happen while I was gone? What did I miss?”

"I think you're a good height" he said smiling "It means that I can do this" he added while leaning his arm on her shoulder as he was a good few inches taller then her at best. He smiled down at her. "Oh gods that is small and not very scary...I don't think people would be scared of a 10 year old girl who doesn't even come up to their chin." he said smirking down at his sister who wasn't that much taller. "Oh but don't get me wrong.. you.. you're terrifying" he said winking "I almost ran for my life when you came running down that beach." Nathan chuckled as he removed his arm as Artemis probably wouldn't like it, he didn't know what the goddess' rules were against brothers.

She didn't even hug him back and when she did it was gingerly. What was going on? Nathan felt like he didn't even know his own sister anymore. The sister that had welcomed him to Camp Half Blood all those years ago was gone and had been replaced with a fully trained hunter that didn't know or remember what a real hug was. He felt like the fox in the movie Fox and the Hound, when the hound goes out on a hunting trip and comes back all different. He used to watch all the Disney movies when he was small because of all the songs and he even tried to mash his favorites together to make a better one.

He gave one of his oh so famous half smiles "Let's face it... I would make a cute anything" he said smirking but it fell as soon as it came " Well... except a worm.. no one would look good as a worm." he added jokingly.

Nathan nodded as she spoke but was looking out at the water. He felt something in his stomach, was that guilt? What was he doing? Being mad at Mia for not telling him the whole truth when he never told her the whole truth about himself. His anger washed away with the currents of the sea as he turned to look at his sister again. "That's OK Mia." he said with a reassuring smile. He was still worried for his sister and only wanted to know everything so that he could try and protect her but now that she was a hunter, he guessed that she didn't need much protecting anymore.

Siblings were a tricky thing to deal with. Most people at camp seemed to have siblings by blood and not just demigod siblings. That wasn't Nathan's case. He had no siblings, his father was cruising the skies and his mother was MIA (Missing In Action). He was pretty sure he was going to be alone his whole life that was until Camp Half Blood. He met all his siblings and there were a good bunch of them. However they all had mortal siblings that he thought they must like better then Nathan who just came into their lives one day,

Mia confirmed it, and he knew all along she was destined to be a hunter. She was probably Artemis's prized hunter. "Well I am glad to hear it." he said smiling "I just wish you could stay here forever but that's probably not the way Artemis roles" he added dismissively. Mia asked what she missed and what was new. Looking both ways to make sure no one was taking a stroll around this time, no one. "Can you keep a secret?" he asked in a whisper tone.

"Perfect," Mia replied, her eyes gleaming with delight. "I've always wanted a pet bunny." Too bad the bunny would probably be eaten by one of her sister's wolves in a matter of seconds (if the falcons didn't get there first, of course). "And I'm sure our younger siblings would love to have an adorable cabin mascot." Actually, leaving a rabbit in the care of a bunch of nine-year-olds was probably worse than allowing it to live in the company of well-trained wolves.

Mia smiled gratefully as Nathan hurried to reassure her. Nothing prompted her temper to flare quicker than a person who dug too deep for too long, searching for answers she wasn't ready to give. After spending so much time around her reserved sisters, many with impossibly long and painful pasts, Mia often found herself struggling to string together the words necessary to keep the pushiest people at bay now that she was at Camp. It wasn't hard to find them; they came to her. Various boys and Aphrodite campers who could never fathom why someone would want to turn to the "dark side" had accused her of "suffering from daddy issues" and other equally ridiculous reasons, all the while probing for some event in her past that could explain her choice to take the oath.

Despite the sinking sun, the evening air seemed to lighten and fill her bones with a welcoming warmth as Mia realized Nathan was not going to do the same to her.

"Yeah, probably not," she confirmed, her voice a bit more forceful than she had intended. With each passing day, the fact that Lady Artemis had not come to whisk the Hunters away in over a year grew into a more and more pressing issue, one that often kept Mia up long past midnight. "But I'll always be able to visit sometime or another, and in case I can't, there's always Iris Messages." The Hunter made a silent vow to make an effort to keep in touch with her friends and siblings when she left Camp again... if she ever left Camp.

Mia's gaze followed Nathan's as he quickly surveyed the beach. Before she could ask him what he was looking for, he spoke. Mia leaned in slightly, trying to catch his words before the crashing waves drowned them out. "Yeah, of course," she whispered back, nodding. Adopting a slightly louder volume, Mia said, "You know, there's no need to whisper. No one's out here. They're all at the dining pavilion." She frowned, suddenly realizing that they would have to skip dinner. Hopefully, one of her sisters would have food when she returned to her cabin.

Nathan chuckled uneasily, by the tone in her voice he couldn't tell if she was serious or not. Most likely she was just messing with him...or was she? "Yes? Then i'll go into town and get you one, and i will stay as I am" he said smiling "I don't think I could handle the no thumbs thing" he added examining his thumbs, moving them up and down. "Wait! don't you have like a million and one wolves living in your cabin?" he asked raising an eyebrow. Maybe a pet rabbit wasn't such a good idea after all. Imagining it he shivered "Yikes."

"It's only that. I want to protect you from getting hurt! I mean that's what brothers do right, they protect their sisters. Although.." he started looking down at her, small in stature but mature and brave none the less. "it doesn't look like you need much protecting anymore" he finished, sighing and looking out at the crashing waves that came onto the shore. Was Nathan a bad person? He didn't think so. Sometimes he felt like he wasn't even a son of Apollo, the god of music (which he didn't use) of truth (he was lying to all his siblings) Often the thought crossed Nathan's mind that if he were to see Apollo face to face, would he proud of the hero he had tried to become, of demigod young man he was? He doubted it

Nathan liked his dad, he was a cool dude, he met him once when he was smaller but that was it. He was trying hard to be the perfect son, trying to prove to his dad who may not even be watching him that he could do anything that he should be proud of him. The sun was beginning to set, he looked across at Mia she was moon now, and he was sun. They were opposites, as he lost power she gained and as she lost he gained. "You know" he said smiling looking over the sea and the crashing waves at the setting sun. "I always watch the sunrise and set, everyday." he said looking back at his sister. "It makes me feel like he says Good Morning and Goodnight to me everyday, like I almost have a normal father that does care about his children" he said chuckling as the sun was just about gone.

Stepping back a bit, he took a breath in. He knew the truth about her probably not being able to stay at camp forever but the words still stung as they came out. Smiling he gave a small chuckle "Yeah Iris Message." Iris messaging was how demigods communicated with each other, it was fairly simple: create a rainbow then toss a drachma into it and say who you wanted to talk to. "It's just not the same as having you here" he said smiling. Although he appreciated her offer for the visits he doubted that she would be able to swing it when the time came.

Taking a deep breath he started "I've been seeing things, not just around me things that aren't even there. Almost like I can see the future" he said glancing at Mia for a reaction. He hadn't heard of anyone else with this ability and he was confused. Nathan had no idea how to deal with this, this was eating him alive and he had to tell someone or he was going to explode. "Is that..normal for someone like me?"

Nathan seemed to grow more and more nervous with each passing minute, and it took all her willpower to maintain a serious expression. “Oh, yeah, I suppose you’d miss those,” Mia replied when Nathan complained that he would lose his opposable thumbs. “But I suppose the tail will make up for it. And the ears!” She grinned wickedly. Mia nodded as it suddenly dawned on him that the Hunters also kept wolves. “And a couple million falcons.” Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. Mia dissolved into giggles as Nathan looked on, positively horrified.

Thankfully, Mia didn’t need to remind Nathan that she didn’t need protecting. She was a Hunter after all and more than capable of seriously injuring anyone who dared to mess with her (not that many did). “You’re also forgetting that you’re my little brother. I’m supposed to be protecting you.” And so far, she had done a pretty shitty job of looking after him. Sure, Mia had helped him those first few weeks when he was the new kid at Camp, but she had abandoned him the first chance she got.

“Really?” Mia asked when he mentioned that he watched the sun rise and set every day. “I thought I was the only one,” she confessed. “I used to try to talk to him when the sun rose...” Growing up, she had always known about her true parentage, and it didn’t take her long before she started asking her parents why her father never visited. Of course, they never had an answer, and Mia had taken to watching the skies every morning and evening, hoping for something. It didn’t even have to be a personal appearance; a simple sign from Apollo would’ve been more than enough to satisfy her.

Mia frowned, sensing the hurt in his laughter. It was easy to forget that she was one of the luckier demigods. Living on the other side of the world had meant that monsters almost never bothered her, and unlike a lot of other campers, she had two loving parents. “Nathan, Apollo does care about us.” Even though his children probably ranked lower than his precious sports car/sun chariot hybrid in importance, Mia liked to think that Apollo cared enough. She had seen him a couple of times during her time on the Hunt, and while he acted more like an older brother than an actual father, he had been affectionate. Besides, he had remembered her name, which had been pretty surprising considering that he seemed to have a million children. That had to count for something, right?

Sighing slightly, Mia nodded. “At least they’re better than nothing.” Truth was, they probably wouldn’t be able to see each other much after she left Camp again. She would be travelling the world, hunting monsters, while Nathan went off to uni or wherever to start his own life. Or maybe he would stay and become a counselor. Gods, she didn’t even know what he wanted to do after Camp. They had a lot of catching up to do. Thankfully, they still had hours to go before they were due at the campfire for the nightly sing-along. “You could always visit me though. I promise I won’t let the wolves get you,” she teased.

Mia’s eyes widened as Nathan revealed his secret. For a brief second, something akin to jealousy washed over Mia. Why was it that Nathan had gotten healing skills, archery skills, and the power of foresight while she only had archery? Immediately, she felt her cheeks grow warm, ashamed to have felt that way. Hopefully, Nathan couldn’t tell… “It’s definitely normal.” Mia smiled reassuringly. “Apollo’s god of prophecies, remember? I think he gave you the gift of foresight. It’s pretty rare.” She paused before hesitantly asking, “How long have you been seeing things?”

Nathan's face scrunched up in disbelief and confusion, jokingly "Well ..Yeah!" he said smiling. "Thumbs are very important...well to me they are" he added on. Maybe thumbs were not the desire for some people, maybe they wanted to be thumb less but hey that was their choice. Nathan couldn't help but chuckle "Yeah I guess" he said "I'd bring kicking butt to a whole new level" he added jokingly with the goofiest grin, spread across his thin face. Nathan was thinning out over the past few weeks. He just didn't have an appetite because he had so much on his mind, from the darkness that was spreading across the camp but not only that he had girls to think about. Right now it was two in particular. Anabelle, daughter of Demeter and Sara, daughter of Poseidon. Anabelle was the girl in the photograph in his back pocket and she was lovely but Sara was something else, she made him feel whole, complete...it gave him this feeling that no one else could give him. Gahh it was so confusing though!!

Gasping and a look of complete horror crossed his face "Wolves AND Falcons?? OK I'm DEFIANTLY not getting you a bunny now!" he said as his sister broke into a fit of giggles. He sighed. "Yeah I guess you're right" he said gazing out over the beach waves that crashed down on the shore. "But isn't it always the boy protecting the girl in all those cheesy stories about the Greek myths. Hercules saves this girl. Perseus saves that girl. It's always the boys job to be the protector, but I guess... I can let you take the reins for now" he said smiling down at his sister that was stuck in her 13 year old body. He knew she was older but it didn't make him feel anymore manly telling a 13 year old girl that she could protect him now.

"Really. I guess it's an Apollo thing." he said smiling at the sun as it's last rays were just barely visible over the water. "Yeah but my ...err... friend and I have been photographing the sun the past few days, she taught me how to use a camera!" he said grinning wider. Nathan was very bad with technology and tended to screw up most of them. Now he knew how to work a camera. His next lesson would be a cell phone. "I talk to him too, he came to me in my thoughts the other day actually, giving me girl advice" he said, rolling his eyes. Apollo was very flirtatious and loved to mess with Nathan's love life, it seemed. Nathan only when he was nine did he figure out that his father was Apollo and then the next year he ran away from home, guided by some mystical force to this camp. On his journey he didn't have his sword he has now, he had nothing. To battle monsters he used whatever he could find: a rake a fence post...anything really.

In the past it had been rare to have a thought from Apollo, let alone a visit from him. However since Nathan's foresight had become more frequent and somewhat important, Apollo had taken a more personal interest in him. It wasn't everyday that a child of Apollo was gifted with foresight... it wasn't common. Except none of his siblings knew of his foresight, no one did, not even Chiron. However he was tempted to tell Mia. He felt closest to her which was weird because she has been gone for six years. She had been his light when things seemed most dark for him, of course he trusted her, she was the only one. Nathan had trust issues from his mother. She kept him from a huge part of his life and lied to him, not to mention killing his musical muse and confidence.

"I guess you're right...again" he said smiling, how was it that Mia was always right? Nathan will never know the secrets to girls always being right. Nathan laughed "Well that's very kind of you, and maybe I will...someday." he said smiling "Where do you want to go on your worldwide quest to hunt monsters?" he asked curiously. "Greece? New Orleans? France? You are probably a Paris girl aren't you?" he said. As the words came out of his mouth they didn't sound like he was talking with his sister, it sounded as if he was talking with a new friend.

Nathan squinted his eyes back in worry as his sister's eyes widened, he assumed that she had the gift, that many others had this gift like him, and that when he was 10, coming to camp Half Blood would prove that he was normal, just like everybody else. No such luck. Mia said it was normal, he didn't believe her "If it's normal then why don't you have it." Nathan considered this, well at least she could sing and play any instrument she wanted to, although he doubted that it would help in her Hunter duties. "I've been seeing things since I was born...I just thought I was dreaming and sleeping all the time and didn't think anything of it." he said reminiscing on the painful past. "My mom told me I "blacked out" a lot so I thought I was just weak and feinted. Not until I got to this camp and learned what dad was that it finally clued in that it was a demigod thing." he said physically showing quotation marks with his fingers.

"Atalanta," Mia countered when Nathan brought up Hercules and Perseus. The huntress had always been one of Mia's favorite figures from the Greek myths. "She saved a whole group of boys during the Calydonian boar hunt. And Penelope held her own against a houseful of guys. There's also the Amazons and Medea, who saved Jason and the Argonauts." And later killed her own children thought Mia, but she decided it was probably best not to mention that. Nevertheless, Mia smiled as Nathan conceded that she could protect herself. "Much obliged, baby brother." she said teasingly.

Mia listened in silence as the sun completed its path, dipping below the horizon, only a few shafts of light still visible. "I'm kind of glad Apollo's our father. It's nice to know that he watches over us everyday." Even if he didn't specifically look for them, Mia liked to pretend that maybe he sometimes grinned down whenever he spotted a city that one of his children lived in.

"Friend?" Mia repeated, grinning as Nathan seemed to stumble over the word. "Girl advice? What'd Apollo say? Or do I want to know?" Probably not. Apollo had tried to give her flirting advice once, and Artemis had nearly shot him right then and there. "And does this mean what I think it means?" she asked, raising her eyebrows as a smirk played upon her lips. Finally deciding that maybe Nathan had endured enough (after all, Apollo himself had decided to "grace" the boy with girl "advice"), Mia switched subjects. "You'll have to show me your photos sometime."

As Nathan admitted that she was right once again, Mia laughed before assuming a fake haughty voice. "Of course I am." Adopting a more sincere tone, Mia nodded earnestly. "You totally should! It'll be fun." After losing over five years with Nathan, Mia was more than ready to make them up as best she could. Because she had all the time in the world, it was easy for Mia to forget that her other friends and family didn't have the extra time.

It didn't take Mia long to come up with a response to his next question. "Melbourne." She just wanted to go back home again even though that was probably not going to happen anytime in the near future seeing as how Lady Artemis had just granted her permission to go a few months ago. And to an immortal, a few months was the equivalent of a couple of seconds. Mia sat still for a couple of awkward seconds, reminiscing about her hometown, before suddenly realizing that Nathan had continued his questioning.

Trying to pretend that she hadn't completely zoned out, Mia continued, "I've already been to Greece, but I'd like to go again." It'd been strange seeing the place of her ancestry (kind of). There had definitely been something calming about Greece, as if she had found one of the few places where she truly belonged. "Paris girl, huh?" Mia repeated. "I suppose that'd be nice. I'd probably prefer the chateaus outside Paris though. More nature and hunting grounds." She paused before returning the question. "If you could go anywhere, where would you want to go?"

Conversation shifted to Nathan's gift, and Mia listened intently, trying not to flinch as he wondered why she didn't have it. It'd been something she had certainly wondered. Well, not about foresight specifically, but about her other powers. She'd spent many nights wondering why she didn't have ADHD or the ability to heal or anything useful. (She was still trying to figure out how her musical abilities would ever help her. They didn't even allow her to sing successful healing songs to her father.) You have archery. You should be grateful for that. she reminded herself.

Mia bit her lip. "I don't know. It's a very rare gift since it's so powerful, so I guess you won the genetic lottery," she replied, smiling encouragingly. She hoped he didn't feel too alienated with the gift. Nathan, of all people, didn't deserve that. Mia couldn't imagine what it'd be like to feel different from other demigods. Discovering that you weren't "normal" was hard enough, but discovering that you were different from those who were supposed to be just like you? That had to be difficult.

Mia chuckled softly as he made air quotes. "Yeah, the demigod world can be a pain in the arse. If something strange is going on, it's probably demigod-related." It was a rule that all demigods (and their mortal parents) learned sooner or later. "Are the visions bothering you though? They don't hurt or anything, right?" Hopefully, they weren't any worse than the usual demigod dream.

Where have you been? I haven't seen you for so long
I guess you're gone, you're really gone!

Nathan rolled his eyes but smiled none the less, yes there were almost as many heroines in Greek mythology as there were heroes. Nathan chuckled to himself "I keep referring to the old stories as myths or stories of fiction that parents tell their kids or teachers teach their class, but I guess...all the stories are true." he said a smile on his face. It was still hard to believe sometimes that he was indeed a demigod, a son of Apollo none the less.It seemed only yesterday that he was sitting in his room at home and strumming away playfully at his guitar, but those days were gone now. His musical light extinguished.


That was where he was always supposed to be, in the amphitheater or in the infirmary healing the sick from the Nosi spirits that threatened the camp and everyone in it. Being a son of Apollo meant that his siblings and himself had a duty to serve as wardens almost of the infirmary treating the sick with Chiron. Nathan never minded helping out but now a days it seemed like he lived there and it was taking a bigger toll on him then he seemed to let on. He smiled, rubbing the back of his neck as his sister "thanked him" on his confession that she could take care of herself just fine. Always that hint of tease hidden in there somewhere.


A comfortable silence fell over the two teenagers as they watched the sun complete it's path, it was already almost the end of the day and soon the cleaning harpies would be out to "shoo" or attack any camper out past curfew. "I know what you mean" he said stretching his arms with a yawn. Nathan was never really into the night life, it was as if his energy cycle revolved around the sun...the sun went up he was up, sun went down and he lost all his energy. "I think we are one of the luckier demigods, besides the Dionysus kids...but then again I'm not to sure if that's a blessing or a curse." he said a smile playing across his face.


"Okay don't get to excited I don't need my sister shot through because she meddled in my love life" he said almost breaking into a small laugh. "I don't think so. He's weird sometimes...dad. He was just telling me which demigods were cool to date and not. He said stay away from the Hades kids...too dark and depressing or something like that??" he quoted, remembering the early morning on the hill top with Anabelle. It wasn't that long ago but it felt like ages and they had drifted apart anyways...he didn't know where they stood up until now, friends was a good way to put it. My photos?? "Oh that wasn't mine...Anabelle took it, I asked her if I could keep it." he added sheepishly.


"Yeah Yeah Yeah" he said. Mia had always been smarter and wiser then Nathan. So her being right wasn't exactly out of the ordinary for him. He usually just rolled his eyes and smiled and laughed with her as they always did. He was going to have to make up for lost time with his sister given the fact that they had lost so much time. "What should we do when I come and visit...we could do mortal things. I doubt Artemis would let me join you on a hunt." he added playfully. She answered his next question without hesitation.. Melbourne? "What's in Melbourne again?" he asked. "Gods I feel like I should know this but I'm just drawing a blank" he added. She sat there with a look in her eyes that he sometimes saw in others when they were talking about their family to him... a sense of reminiscing if you will. Nathan never had that look.


Nathan wished he could travel the world like she did, maybe he could someday. Go to all the places he mentioned: Greece, Rome, New Orleans and Paris. "Really? how was being in Greece?? Was it as amazing as they say or better or worse...I don't know." he said, excitement evident in his voice. He loved hearing about far off lands except he had never even been outside of New York City. "Yeah that would be nice..I would just like to see some of the monuments too...I wonder if they are automaton's" he added thoughtfully. "I think Paris would be nice but also Greece, Rome, New Orleans ...those kinds of places."


He took a deep breath of salty air coming from the sea as the waves seemed to silently crash onto the shore. "I don't know" he said "sometimes I think that but other times it's just annoying and painful." Nathan remembered how in the woods he got that sight of the girl with the blonde hair, it had hurt his head so much so that he had fallen out of the tree. "I haven't told anyone about it...I don't want anyone to know at least not right away." Nathan had never wanted to be different he just wanted to blend in, if he told his secret to everyone he would be different even from the different people.


"They give me migraines and obviously they interrupt my dreams. But all demigods have dreams like visions right?" he said still rubbing his neck. "they have gotten worse in the past few weeks, what with the Nosi spirits infecting everyone, I've been working in the infirmary a lot...I guess I'm just tired" he said. "I think I should visit the Morpheus kids, maybe get a sleeping drought...or ill whip one up myself." Nathan said tiredly as the sun started to fade and so did his energy.
