When They first Met (Kavika + Juliyetta)

It happened again, Kavika woke up somewhere else after having that same dream. He wishes that he can get this curse under control, he's afraid of going to sleep now, never knowing where he's going to wake up, all because of that first time... when he let his mother die because of it. If he hadn't been so afraid then, if he'd been there to protect her... No, he can't reclaim the past, he must move on.

Kavika stood up out of the dirt and looked around to see where he was. It wasn't that dark anymore but the sun hadn't rose yet. There was a brick wall behind him, of a small business building. In front of him was a gravel drive way and a chain-link fence, on the other side of that fence were almost twenty warehouses. He looked to his left and right, more business buildings, small ones. So this is edge of some town, probably the same one I've been in. I hope... He thought to himself.

He began to walk towards the left when he heard a crash and something falling like a ton of dirt and gravel. There was a loud yell and Kavika saw a cloud of dust rise up from one of the warehouses a couple of rows up. Kavika ran towards the fence to see what the problem was. As one can expect he couldn't see much of anything from where he was, so he shot up the fence like a cat, crouching at the top to look over the top of the buildings. He couldn't see much due to the cloud of dirt and dust, but there was a huge shadowed silhouette with a sword. Right away, Kavika knew that was no human. It brought down it's sword with another yell and more dust rose up and a smaller silhouette managed to dodge swing with ease, however Kavika knew he had to do something. He wasn't just going to stand by as someone was being attacked by a monster. Especially after what happened a year ago.

Kavika hopped down on the other side of the fence and traveled the maze of warehouses to find the dust cloud. What monster lay in that chaos he didn't know, nor did he know how he was going to help being unarmed and all. He'll just have to make it up as he went he guessed.

Fifteen years old and Julie was already fighting for her life. She had been completely alone for a while now and was only surviving on her wit and strength... but mostly the former. She was rather strong for a girl her age, but what was truly surprising was her intelligence. It had gotten her this far, but what was it going to do for her if she couldn't afford to attend school like her father had? How was she going to become a famous chemist like him? Or like Madame Curie?

Of course, none of that mattered if she didn't make it out of here alive. Living on the streets was not going to look good on her college application, but neither would mental instability. After all, how many other people would agree that she was standing directly in front of a cyclops trying not to get her head cut off. That was definitely a way to end up in the loony-bin.

"You are definitely an intelligent being," Julie coaxed, dodging the monster's first swing. "So let's think about this rationally. Why would you want to eat a skinny teenage child? I mean, I have very little meat on my bones, so why settle for me instead of that football player that just walked by, like, five minutes ago?"

"I want demigod!" the Cyclops snarled, swinging his sword at Juliyetta again. She quickly dodged it and glanced around at her surroundings. She stood in between two large warehouses, both of which had fire escapes starting at the second story. The alleyway seemed to be littered with dumpsters and gravel, leaving very little space to fight for such a large being, but at the same time leaving very few exits for a small girl. The only way out was to turn into Peter Parker, or to get through this overgrown one-eyed freak.

Kavika found it hard trying to get through the aisles of warehouses only looking up at the cloud of dust and dirt. The main problem was that he kept running into things like dumpsters and ladders. One time he tripped over some air hose that was lying on the ground. After he got up and dusted himself off, he decided he should at least figure out which way he needed to go from time to time.

"I want demigod!" Kavika heard a voice roar in the distance, he looked up and saw that the cloud was beginning to thin out. What's a demigod? Kavika thought, then his urgency kicked in. He will soon not be able to find where the battle was being fought, he looked around him real quick and saw some metal lying about. He jogged towards it and rummaged around for something heavy to swing with. He grabbed a rusty pry bar and began running faster.

He looked up after running several feet, and realized that the cloud was gone. He ran faster now in the general direction he thought the cloud was in, soon his vision blurred growing dark. What's happening? he thought. It was too late, all he could see was shadow, but he was moving at a speed he's never gone before. The air was cold and unwelcoming. He kept going straight for that was the only way he could go, there were walls of black on either side of him. This seemed all somehow familiar to him. No, this can't be!

Before he could gather the rest of his thoughts, his vision cleared and he appeared on the top of one of the fire escapes. In front and below him was a giant bald creature that looked like a fat person with a sword. Immediately Kavika swung the pry bar at the back of the creature's head and ducked not know what the damage was.

Julie pondered on her escape plan while dodging several blows coming from the monster in front of her. It was a wonder that she could concentrate with his body odor that smelled of dead squirrel. She'd slept in alleyway dumpsters that smelled better than this brute. Dodging another attack, she glanced back at the dumpster. It was practically full, so only one door was able to close properly. The other was leaned upright against the bricks behind her. If only she had a distraction so that she could position herself better...

As if on cue, the monster roared and swiped at something behind her. She was surprised for a moment, but kept her head. As soon as the ogre's attention was elsewhere, she took her dagger and swiped him across the leg. Not a fatal blow, but she wasn't going to get that small knife deep enough into his chest at her height to do any real damage. At least he had a wound to focus on while she and the "mysterious ghost" got re-positioned.

With the cyclops being attacked from behind and holding his leg, she found time to climb onto the closed dumpster lid and out of the monster's reach. Looking across the way, she saw the figure of a boy on the lower balcony of the fire escape... definitely the one who saved her arse five seconds before. Where had he come from, anyway? The roof?

She glanced over at the escape above her, but it was too far to the left to reach. There was no way she could reach it from here. As she looked back down, the ogre swung his sword at her and she couldn't help but yelp. It came just a few inches short of where she was standing, but he didn't seem intelligent enough to move around the dumpster to get her.

The creature roared with pain and swung its sword around while bending over to grab its leg. Kavika looking through the railing of the fire escape saw a girl take back her knife and made her stand on a near by dumpster across the aisle, trying to stay alive. Obviously she had a plan of some kind, unfortunately Kavika had no idea what that plan was. All he could do is go along and stay alive himself.

The creature was back to attacking the girl who stabbed it in the leg with a knife again. Kavika picked up his pry bar and ran down the fire escape and joined the girl in the fight. The creature was now trying to fight both of them but seemed to be having trouble concentrating on two enemies. Not very bright is it? The girl was only to give it a couple cuts with her knife only when its leg or arm would get close. No matter what she wouldn't move from the dumpster, like she was waiting for the right moment. Kavika, mean while would give the monster a couple good whacks with his pry bar, but he feared all he was able to do was severely bruise the fat ugly guy.

When Kavika managed to get a moment to think he called out to the girl on the dumpster, "Hey! What's your plan lady? You have don't ya?" The cyclops roared and bounded after him with the sword and Kavika blocked with his pry bar. The monster's sword scraped rust off of the tool and into his eyes. It made them itch and water causing it hard for him to see.
