Sweat rolled off Maddie's nose, and on to the hot metal she was working on with a sizzle. She grunted heavily as she pushed the chunk of metal away from the side of the worktable slightly. She took her heavy mallet, raised above her head, then swung the mallet down and onto her soon-to-be sword with a mighty force. She was able to hit so hard because of the stuff she had on her mind. This she thought with another blow, is for—whack—the—whack—girl—whack—who—whack—stabbed—whack—me! Maddie struck the metal again and again, adding a thought with each strike. She had a lot on her mind these past days, and working in the forges helped her get rid of that. It always had. See, she had gotten it from her brothers. 'Anger solves all issues!' They would say. Countless times, Maddie had seen them get mad at eachother, beat the crap out of one another, then go back to being best buds. Though, Maddie had enough sense to take out her anger on metal and dummies (No. Not dummies as in Finn McCain and Bailey Allison, the fake ones in the arena).
You would think that growing up with boys would make her like boys more, right? Wrong. Her brothers where idiots. They always where getting in trouble, getting arrested (don't ask), and doing extremely stupid things. She did honestly believe that females where the smartest gender. All the girls she hung out with growing up where smarter than her brothers. Maybe dramatic and guy-crazy, but smarter nonetheless. Did that mean she didn't have more of a tolorance for boys? No. For her, it was way easier to talk to guys then to talk to girls. She only had a few female friends because she didn't know how to react to one. It was kind of stupid, but it was what it was.
Her hair was plastered with sweat, her jeans had long strips of black oil and grease running along it. She had gotten so hot she had taken off her plaid shirt to reveal two muscular arms and a white cammie was smudged with black grease and had a small hole in it from when she had burned through it accidentally. What a site I must be, she thought. It reminded her of the time when she was working on the car, and her science partner and crush showed up to work for their project. Maddie had been so embarressed at the time, but was over it by nest week when he had been exposed as a cheater. Typical guy. Maddie remembered thinking. He seems perfect, then he does some dumbass thing and dates two girls.
For most, it was strange to be in the forges in the evening, as that was exactly the time that Maddie was there. She was always there in odd hours, working late on projects, or just blowing off steam, which was what she was doing today. Her week had been terrible. First, a pegasi went all demented and tried to eat campers. Of course, Maddie was the pegasi trainer, so she had to deal with this. She was trying to tame the thing, when the girl that had broughten out the pegasi was trying to throw a knife at it. The knife ended up in Maddie's ankle. She could feel the sweat running down her ankle right now, moving around the bandage taped there. Then, when it was supposedly locked up, it broke out and went into the infermary, where Maddie had been. She had then gotten into a fight with Gary, the guy who 'locked' up the pegasi. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.
Now the axe blade was starting to get some form. She had decided she made swords too much, so she wanted something new. Ergo, the hatchet blade. Maddie smacked it with the hammer again, and sparks flew. Metal on metal tands to do that. But, unlike the other times when the sparks just flickered out, this one set fire to a work bag that was a few feet from Maddie. Sighing, all she had to do was put her heavily gloved hand on the bag and the fire was put out in an instant. Idiots where always doing that. Maddie, of course, had enough sense to put her workbag out of the way. Two people got in a fight the day before, just because one accidentally set the others on fire. It ended in both of them getting burned because they had a fist fight in the forges. Just like a man to do that.
