Tal had made it a routine to slip her ring back on as soon as she awoke, having placed it carefully on Em's unused vanity every night before then. Up until now, nobody had so much as spotted it there, amid the tubes of mascara and different bottles of concealer and gods only knew what else. But this particular morning, her mind seemed to slip just slightly enough so that she passed the vanity in the morning without donning the beautiful ring. And when she did realize it, in the midst of helping several twelve-year-olds conjugate Greek verbs (pre-counselorship duties), she was perhaps not as worried as she should have been. She was a little too sure that nobody would take it; it was one of the few things she was sure of.
After figuring that the girls were doing alright, and after they assured her that they were, Tal hurried back to the nearly vacant Hermes cabin to locate the ring that was so much more than just a ring. At first, when she couldn't find it, she simply searched larger and larger areas until she had to resign herself to the fact that somebody had moved it from its spot or even been audacious enough to steal it.
Cursing herself for not being more careful, she looked around frantically until she set her eyes on her older brother, Dylan. "Hey..." she spoke hesitantly at first. "Have you seen, uh, a ring in here at all recently? I really need it..." And it was true. She did need it. It was all of him to her, now that he was gone; not only from the living world but the living dead, too. Sailed on, having left a circle of silver and a smattering of memories like freckles behind him. It seemed as though he had left them especially for the daughter of Hermes to pick up, one by one. And perhaps he just had. "Honestly... I left it..." Tal gestured vaguely to Em's vanity, the spotless mirror glaring back at the sunlight streaming in through the window. "Over there." She knew she would never forgive herself if it were truly lost. Her (what she called) irresponsibility had ruined countless things.
ooc; maybe he could forget he has it? because if he gave it back to her immediately she would most likely just thank him.
