She had asked Luke to meet her at the volleyball court at eleven o'clock. It had just sprang out of her mouth as quickly and easily as a cat chasing after a particularly brightly colored bird, and as said eager cat's owner, she hadn't been able to bite down on her tongue and stop it. She wasn't sure exactly what had come over her, but didn't care...really.
Dragging her feet as she headed to her destination, she inspected the surrounding foliage in a failed attempt to try and distract her mind from what she wanted to do. But when you try to avoid a thought, it just bounces back like a boomerang, sleek and quick. It's as though your thoughts are intent on foiling you...and so she was unable to keep her train of thought focused on anything, with the exception of two things that happened to be Luke and Bobbi.
Taking a seat at one of the benches for volleyball audiences, she glanced around for the Ares boy, but couldn't see him from where she was. Her mind slowly wandered back to the two people she was intent on not thinking of...but couldn't stop wondering about.
She felt like she barely knew Luke anymore. Back when they were 'just friends,' it was fine. They'd told each other absolutely everything, hung out together both planned and spontaneously, and had inside jokes like every pair of close friends did. And then, as though an invisible wall had sprung up at one point...and there had been awkward silences in place of awkward-sounding, yet hilarious experiences. Instead of spontaneous hanging out, you could categorize the same thing as 'running into each other.'
And then the next part of their relationship begun, and it was all right again...well, for a little while. Not anymore, Tal thought awkwardly as her eyes darted from direction to direction, searching for Luke. The several-second-long comb was fruitless, and she had nothing to do but stare down at her hands and wait for him.
