Nervously smoothing down her off-white dress, Tal glanced around at the vicinity that surrounded her. The Mess Hall had been transformed into a breathtaking place; the lighting was glowing and gorgeous and made the partygoers seem to look as though they had been lit from within. When she spun full circle, the child of Hermes could see that dark green mistletoe and cute strings of popcorn had been hung from various places and there was so much as a dance floor in the middle, shining as though it had been polished just five minutes before she lay eyes on it. The place looked flawless, and it was a welcome yet far cry from the usual appearance of the Mess Hall. Littler kids throwing food, older ones chewing and talking with their mouths open and accidentally slopping their soup onto the ground. Talysus couldn't help but take a small breath in.
She wasn't yet sure if she was comfortable. The gentle pink lip gloss, which she'd only started wearing since she'd begun her relationship with — she thought with a gulp — Luke, felt slightly sticky and still unfamiliar on her lips. Out of habit, the eighteen-year-old kept reaching her hands up to her ears to check whether or not her stud earrings had fallen out, and with the rest of the girls surrounding her in their own outfits and made-up faces that accentuated their best features, Tal felt understandably self-conscious. Being a child of Hermes, looks had never been her best interest and had it not been for Em she would probably be attending the holiday party in jeans and a T-shirt. Smiling slightly at the thought of what her twin would think if she wound up coming looking so slobby, Tal shifted her gaze to her brother, standing beside her. Jamian looked slightly mysterious under the lights, though she wasn't sure how, and it was a very different picture from how he usually looked.Falling out the window with a tampon stuck up his nose, or otherwise.
Breathing out, Tal nudged him. "Doesn't it look amazing?" she asked, her airy voice carrying in the wind slightly before dissolving as she closed her mouth. "I wonder who's coming..." This time, she trailed off in a slightly different way than before. There were so many people she wished would be here, yet wouldn't; the opposite, as well. December was all the way in Florida with their mother, as she had been for months now... as much as Tal hated to admit it, she missed her twin. The way she fussed over Tal and made her feel little also made her feel at home. And then there was Bobbi and Luke... Tal wasn't sure about either of them, but just the thought of either attending made her glance around one more time. Unlike when she had glimpsed the bunches of mistletoe the first time, a couple — a lean, redheaded girl and brunette boy with hair like cinnamon toast — had begun to kiss underneath. Smiling behind her hand, Tal giggled slightly in a sudden rush of giddiness and turned for the last time to look back toward her brother. She tilted her chin up slightly to get a good look at him. "What do you think?"
