`` specifics
Personality Description:
Loyal. If Tal considers you her friend, she will be loyal to you, even if it gets to the point where it is dangerous for her own health. She will protect your secrets with whatever it takes and never betray you, no matter what the cost. To some people, it's flattering, and to other people, it may get to the point where it feels unbearably suffocating. She means well, but she can be overbearing. It doesn't get much more complicated than the fact that she's lonely.
Pessimistic. Given the negative events that have directly impacted her throughout her life, Tal has an extremely pessimistic outlook on most everything. To her, the glass is always half empty (and it's most likely filled with some extremely deadly poison). She often gets irritated with those who are overly optimistic, as she believes that they are too happy and just setting themselves up for failure or hurt. This quality of Tal's turns a lot of people off.
Sad. She's a very sad person, with very few genuinely happy moments, and it shows more than she realizes. Tal is extremely emotional and cries often, much to her mortification; she has a lot of emotions that boil over due to her keeping them to herself. She often feels out of control of her feelings.
Angry. Tal is, for the most part, angry at the world due to the fact that she feels things are unjust. She'll often take her anger out on her siblings or herself. Once again, she often feels out of control of her strong feelings and this upsets her even more.
Caring. Despite her flaws, Tal is an extremely caring friend, always ready to listen to you talk about the problems in your life. She's there to offer advice if you want it, although she always starts with the tentative disclaimer of "I don't know, but..." If she notices that you feel down, she'll most likely run to your cabin with chocolate and a listening ear. She's extremely nurturing and good with younger kids.
Dramatic. Tal tends to exaggerate and dramatize her stories in order to make them appealing to other people. Her emotions are strong, sometimes even comedically so, and it's not intentional so much as habit, a trait left over from her days as a prankster.
Wears her heart on her sleeve. Tal's emotions are very up front, which makes some people uncomfortable. She'll cry to you if you're near her and she needs to let something out; if she's feeling angry, she won't talk to you, even if you've done everything right. It's very obvious to the people around her what her current mood is.
Contradictory. She's a big bundle of contradictions - she's both clingy and disturbingly distant, among other things. It really depends on her mood, which fluctuates like a roller coaster. It's hard to predict the Tal you'll get depending on the day. You need to have a lot of patience and spare love for her. Thus, she can be difficult, but she's really a lovely person just in dire need of some care and a listening ear.

`` history & family
Personal History: Nicolette d'Auvergne Winchell was spending a year abroad at a French university, going back to her roots, when she met Hermes (known to her as Harrison Hennessy). Nicolette was working as a barista in a casual café and was about to leave her shift and get back to school when Harrison walked in. He didn't walk, he swaggered as though he were the best thing since sliced bread. He had a mysterious yet mischievous smile, thick eyebrows, and mischievous pointy ears reminiscent of an elf. Though he definitely was not Nicolette's type, there was something absolutely fascinating about him that simply captivated Nicolette.
Hermes had been delivering a message to a demigod who lived in Paris and was tired, yet managed to come off as completely exuberant. Patiently waiting at the back of the line, he studied the barista at the counter. Nicolette had dark brown hair the color of black coffee that hung to her waist in rich, shining curls. Her skin was light and all of the flaws on her face were covered up by expertly applied makeup. Her eyes were wide, luminous, and lined with lots of eyeliner. Hermes didn't know anything about her personality, of course, but being slightly shallow, he knew he wanted to know more about this woman.
When the people before him had placed their orders and it was his turn to do so, Hermes was simply tongue-tied at the beauty of the person standing before him. Nicolette, who had been eyeing Hermes as soon as he walked in the door of the café, smiled at him and batted her eyelashes. This girl was slightly insane and asked him out on the spot. Being the cocky man he was, Hermes was flattered and flustered and said yes. Of course he would like to have dinner sometime.
Fast-forward to a week later, in a dimly lit restaurant at a table for two. There were Nicolette and Hermes, laughing and having a wonderful time. The two clicked after all — when Nicolette wasn't in one of her moods, anyway — and were almost always seen together after that. After their first movie that they watched together — a retro-style silent film with a live orchestra, about a young couple — they went back to Nicolette's dorm room and did what never should be done so quickly.
Soon afterwards, Nicolette started throwing up in the mornings and noticed the absence of one very important thing she needed for reassurance. Thunderstruck, the college student got tested, and she was told that she was, in fact, pregnant. Unsure how to tell Harrison about the misfortune, she considered having an abortion but couldn't bring herself to do it. Finally, when she was two months in, she called her boyfriend and asked him to meet her in a nearby park. This was where she told him everything. She was pregnant with his baby.
Hermes bit his lip, considering. He had to tell Nicolette who her child was going to be. But he couldn't bring himself to do so. On the spot, he simply dumped her and before she could say anything, he fled back to Olympus. He didn't tell anybody what he had done. Unknowingly, he had impregnated a mortal woman with not one, but two demigod children.
Despite the fact that Nicolette was a bit loopy, she had truly been in love with Harrison and was sorry to see him go. The young woman delved into a state of depression. She cut her hair in a choppy style, dyed it jet-black and flatironed it within an inch of its life every morning. Her nose was pierced, her eyes were heavily made up, and she wore dark clothing. Nobody at the college knew what to make of her, and she eventually dropped out when her pregnancy was too big to try and avoid. At that point, she knew she wanted an abortion, but it was illegal at that point in the pregnancy to get one. And then finally, on a June afternoon in 1994, she went into labor. The next day, bright and early, two twin girls were born. Nicolette named them Talysus and December, goth names, against her own mother's wishes.
Being the young, lost person that Nicolette was, you could say that she wasn't mother material. She moved back to Florida with her two daughters and stayed with her mother for a long time, but when the twins were two years old, she knew that she couldn't do that forever. She rented her own place, about a half-hour's drive away from her parents' home, and settled in there. The place was small, nothing special, but Nicolette fixed it up and soon enough, it was sparkling clean. Everything was always in place. It was as clean as a hospital ward.
When her children were three years old, Nicolette took her mother's advice and got help to raise her children. Nicolette was rather busy with work and other affairs, and she couldn't give Talysus and December the care that the two of them needed. Eventually, she found the perfect nanny. Wendy Adkins, or Miss Wendy as she was known to Tal and December, was caring, loving and very attentive. She was also a legacy of Demeter, though Nicolette obviously didn't know about it. Miss Wendy recognized the godly activity in the girls immediately and knew she should get them to camp. She wound up waiting several years and caring for them with her heart and soul, including paying their private-school tuition. Sadly, in their first-grade year they were kicked out for reasons unknown. Miss Wendy took it with grace, as she had expected it. She considered the girls her children, while Nicolette considered them more like pets. This went on for several more years until finally, when Tal and Em were in sixth grade, Miss Wendy told Nicolette everything. Not being quite sane, Nicolette took it as true because it filled in all the loopholes. Wendy loaded the confused twins in her old car and drove them all the way from Florida to Long Island over a period of several days.
They quickly found a homey feeling in the Hermes cabin, and when they were claimed a week after their arrival and found they could stay there, both were pretty overjoyed — Em was a bit more cynical than Tal, but in the end, it worked out. Slowly, the twins drifted apart during their teenage years considering they were pretty different from each other.
In early 2012, Tal was diagnosed with clinical depression, and was sent to a hospital in the summer of 2013. She has just returned.
Mortal Parent: Nicolette d'Auvergne Winchell. [x]
