Several minutes before dinner, a little blonde head could be seen peeping out of the Apollo cabin at the group of Ares children who were arguing about some small matter surrounding an embarrassing incident, debating whether or not to get revenge… Winter sighed. It looked like the crowd - for in her vocabulary, three people or more were a crowd, especially when the boisterous Ares cabin inmates made up the group - would never leave. And dinner started in seventeen minutes.
Out of this circumstance, she had two options. One: wait until they left, which would most likely make her late, and attract the notice of whoever was already sitting down to eat - basically the whole camp. Two, was that she could walk past the group and hope that she wasn’t noticed. Normally, numero duo would be the best choice by far, as normally none of the Ares campers noticed her. That was just normally. This, however, was most definitely not normally; mainly because the thing the Ares campers were arguing about… was whether or not to get back at the Apollo cabin - her cabin - for some offense one of her older half-brothers had given them. To walk past them now, when everyone already knew what cabin she was in, would probably be to get their undivided attention: a thing that shy Winter didn’t want at all, especially as no one else seemed to be around.
In her experience, aggressive campers + herself + no one else around = bullying session for about fifteen minutes. But was being on time to dinner worth getting humiliated and probably pushed around? Glancing once more around, desperately wishing that another, friendlier camper would appear, the child’s hopes were disappointed. No other people but the objects of her fear were in sight from Thalia’s Hill to the far off, longed-for Mess Hall. With another forlorn sigh, Winter trembled a little as she faced towards the sunset in the distance and began a steady trot towards her goal: dinner.
Her heart beat with increasing dread as her footsteps approached the still-arguing group of campers. Please, please, PLEASE don’t let them notice me, she silently prayed. If she could just get as far as the Zeus cabin at the end of the circle of cabins, she would be as good as away - Winter might have been small, but she was fast enough when she had reason to be. But no- with an overwhelming sense of trepidation, she realized that they had indeed noticed her hurried steps… and were now waiting for her, argument apparently settled.
